... A year ago, the winery changed hands, so I was somewhat trepidatious about the wines, but was delighted to find that they have hired an Australian winemaker. The whites were light and fruity and they have an unoaked c******nay that was quite good. After purchasing a couple of bottles, we traveled up the road. There are so many wineries to try. This area's wineries are more laid backed that ...
Morro Bay, California, United States travelingma... on Friday. Drove
to the Hearst Castle entrance, pretty sure we had to pay to drive up to
it so we headed back to the motel to wash the car with Rich's boxers
and America's fairy liquid, didn't really make much difference! Went
back to Cambria for dinner then home to repack everything that had been
spread out through the car ready for returning it on Friday.
... gotten a late start, but it is just such a great ride. The fog was starting to creep in, so we headed back towards Morro, stopping wherever the camera urge struck.
We stopped in Cayucos, the little town just north of Morro Bay. It is a more developed town with tons of antique outlets. You could wander for quite a while in the stores. But we just strolled around the town and headed back to Morro as the sun was starting to dip and ...
... in as we arrived, so we parked and walked out to the rock. I ventured farther, over the rocks and out to the beach below the sea break. When I first started coming here, you could walk out on the sea break, but then someone was washed out to sea with a wave, so now the break is closed. But the tide was coming in, and there were magnificent wave crashes that towered over the break and cascaded down the side. As usual, my ...
Morro Bay, California, United States travelingma... We had a typically English lunch and really felt like we were back home in a local - weird! We later found out there are a number of English pubs in the Monterey area...
We spent most of the evening researching our next destination in our hotel room. We knew we wanted to head down Hwy 1 and along Big Sur, but we wanted a stop off point for a few days before reaching LA. We plumped for a small place called Cambria, a hundred miles down the ...
... the mount. We took a walk around and saw a tv news crew filming a segment for the local news. Morro rock is a large volcanic plug made of hardened rock and is part of series of plugs running from Morro bay to San Luis Opisbo. We stopped at a bakery and bought lunch before driving on up route 1. We passed an elephant seal lookout on the way where there were hundreds of them all basking in the sun on the beach flipping sand over their backs. Along the way we also passed Julia Pfeiffer Big ...
Morro Bay, California, United States pixelchickWe limped back into the Go Westy garage with a series of injuries and battle scars that had accumulated over the last ten months in Mexico and Central America: A front door lock latch that had broken at Tikal and could be fixed without the part, thus requiring us, for the last six months, to wiggle our finger in it before shutting the door. A passenger-side mirror that was being held on only duck tape ...

Los Osos, California, United States thomasgoescal... we went to explore the hotel before returning to our lovely concierge one hour later, who had our key waiting - result. Circus Circus - full big top, with ring master, trapeze artists, clowns etc until midnight. Full size theme park downstairs with rollercoasters galore, infact so many that you could buy a day pass for this bit alone. Thousands of fruit machines, more than Blackpool put together, plus blackjack, poker and roulette as far as the eye could see. We are not great ...
