... referenced in the elephant seal directions. No seals at this overlook. But we did encounter another older couple as they left the beach and they told us more specifically where the seals were. They also told us of a herd of zebras. Yes, zebras. These were descendants of a herd that William Hurst had at his castle estate. And we saw these as we drove north.

We got outside the San Simeon area at Point Piedras Blancas, and found the elephant seal colony. ...

... us there are 250 wineries in this part of California -- hard to believe! The elevation here is 1471 feet, and the weather forecast is for highs in the low-70's, lows in the low-40's, and mostly sunny. We have heard that both Arizona and Southern California have 300 days of sunshine a year -- don't know if I believe it or not, but it sounds good! ... over to our table and handed us a ten dollar bill with a coin on a card insisting they paid for my dessert as they could see we had been travelling hard. The card was about spreading happiness by showing an act of random kindness.Freaked me out a bit.
