Time to get to work

I am so far behind with this blog. Partly, it's because we have traveled every single month during 2009. There's so much to tell & show that unless I write every week, I'm always several trips behind. The other problem is ...

Moral: Don't Let Ash Fall on You!

Ola Kala: simply, OK (in Greek). No time for lots of flap.....we're on the go. The Vatican Museums await us (and we can hardly wait to do more walking!). Enjoy the pictures and we'll fill you in on the adventure next time I make the time to sit and gab.

We're still having a grand time!!!!!

... half of the ruins, but saw some really amzing stuff.
Pity we couldn't get into the large arena as it was blocked off and looked really impressive from what we could see from the outside.

Naples - best place in Italy so far...

... br>
Saturday went to the Sotterranea catacombs and the ancient Greek Roman theatre ruins, Walked up to Castle Elmo for my panorama shot of Naples and the sea.

Sunday caught the train out to Pompei which was ginormous!
I think we only saw about half of the ruins, but saw some really amazing stuff.
Pity we couldn't get into the large arena as it was blocked off and looked really impressive from what we could see from the outside.

... the town decimated but preserved from Mt. Vesuvius erupting in the first century. Throughout the week, we had the pleasure of being wined and dined by Sophie’s parents and we had some amazing food, the seafood was stellar.

... again we set off to explore. It is another shopping mecca but other then a lovely watercolor print I do not buy anything, it is a delight to just look. Susan really does not want to take the bus back, but again no ferry options so we know we have to take the bus back. We decide to leave early as the buses fill with people leaving Amalfi, and are often full by the time they reach Positano. As we wait at the bus stop we are ...

WARNING! If you don't want to look at lots of photos of Pompeii, stop viewing the slideshow when you reach the first one of them, as I have put them all at the end! Rachel: After being dropped at the station in Verona we got into our sleeper carriage in the train for our trip to Naples, which was about 12 hours. It was really nice that we didn't have to wake up early on the train because it didn't arrive until about 12 o'clock so we could play lots of ...

The road is wider than you think

... most of the time, it is not perfect, and we blew right by the signpost to Ravello and instead took the Garmin route which headed us up into the hills going who knows where. We finally realized that as picturesque as these villages were, they were not what we were seeking. We turned around, went back to the Amalfi road and followed the sign. The road to Ravollo was equally exciting - in both ways. The town is set up for visitors ...

Embarrassment - outsmarted by a dog!!!

... cheese/tomato sandwich ... quite expensive at 4 euros from the grocery store. Got back to the hostel. Splurged on the dorm room with the terrace. Incredible view .. but there were no chairs out there. Luckily, there was a big terrace overlooking the water for everybody to use. Chatted with bunk-mate (Claire, Aussie). She's studying architecture but is taking time off to travel. She's going to Montreal after Italy to visit her boyfriend ...
