Thursday, July 30 Today we rode the motorcycle 8 miles down a dirt road to Tin Cup, a historic little town known for its silver mines back in the old days. It's very small and there's not much there, but it was a fun ride. We were here many years ...

... 2 hours on the river. At about the halfway point we questioned our sanity as we jumped into the 40 degree water just for fun. Then onward we went!

I got the chance to "bull ride," which meant climbing onto the front of the raft, legs hanging over, and holding onto the rope. It was pretty hilarious, especially since it only took me a minute or two before I fell back into the boat.

We finished our cold, yet hilariously fun rafting trip, then continued ...

Driving to Buena Vista (said: Bew-na) took us through
some pretty and green, hilly areas. After missing a turn off, we ended up
driving north: parallel to the Sangre de Cristo mountain range. They were a nice sight and I could see the
Great Sand Dunes at the base of the mountains, but didn’t compare to the 14ers
we got to see from our spot in Buena Vista (BV). We were originally going to
boondock it on BLM land, but decided that is ...

We have aptly nicknamed this ride the "surprise century." After our third, what we thought would be our last century and rumors of today being an 86-ish mile day, a 102 mile ride through the first chunk of the Rockies was not what we expected. Not to mention the persistent head winds (I had to pedal hard down the descents to even break 30mph), and the high elevation that gave a few people some altitude sickness. We climbed about 8,200' over the course of the day, covered the Garden ...

... is a really neat picture where you can seen something in the middle...it's rain.

Oh, and we had a movie type experience that happened so fast we could get a picture. We were driving along next to a berm and a military helicopter rises above the berm with it guns straight on us. Didn't shoot...think Obama just wants to get my attention to stop the FB posts.

Thanks for your patronage and enjoy the pics.
