... OK for the maiden trip. We ended up paddling almost across the lake and back. After we got back I paddled around a little on my own to see how that was...not bad. Next time though, I will get in at the lake to avoid the big drag with me in the boat. All in all we learned what we needed to do to improve the experience...but I enjoyed being out on the lake anyway!

... back after admiring the fireworks show and return to sitting by the campfire. Everyone is much more mellow tonight as we had all been too enthusiastic the night before and were all pretty exhausted. We decide to grab our things out of the car and put them in our room we are staying in just to get it done now and not ...

Work up today to snow!! Sheila got a picture of me with snow on the jacket. We should have headed south, but despite the cold, the Northwood are very amazing beautiful. Sheila and I explored the North Shore of Minnesota from Duluth to Schroeder - about 100 miles. Our first stop was Duluth - at the Duluth Trading Company. Very expensive place.

Next stop was the lighthouse at Two Harbors. The lighthouse is still operating. We couldn't get in the building but we walked ...

... a brand new bridge spanned the waterway. The Mississippi was just waking up in the predawn light as Surly and I arrived. As I stood watching the river flow, I reflected on how thankful I am to be on this journey. Every day is a lesson in self discovery as I explore the scenic byways, visit small towns and ...
