Sunny Milford - I think that must be a first?

... our own wander around the little point in Milford. It was really nice and well worth it. We did it twice. We had booked a kayak/nature walk trip in the afternoon. Dan, our guide met us at the Lodge and we discovered that we were the only 2 people booked on. We were transported down the road in a minibus and then set off kayaking across Deep Basin and up the Arthur River. It was a really nice easy kayaking ...

Milford Sound Cruise
Up early our taxi picked us up at 7.45am and we said a sad farewell to our lovely apartment. We booked in with Real Journey’s and waited for our Coach. Em had taken her anti sickness tablets but I still had plenty of bags on me just incase!!
We managed to bag the front 2 seats and headed off out of Queenstown, it soon became apparent that this was not your usual sleeping coach trip as our driver seemed to fancy himself as a bit ...

Scenic Cruising in the Sound

This is my third visit to Milford Sound and Fjordland's National Park and I may happily report that the weather was perfect. The past 2 visits socked the Sound in with fog and drizzle, but today the sun shined and the air was very nice. Gorgeous day to watch the scenery.

I walked out to the bow, almost got blown overboard, but took some scenic shots for a few moments and then blew myself back into the ship.

Milford

i left early in the morning and took the long and windy road to Milford, its about 2-3 hours drive and its law to carry snow chains but i broke the law and did not as they told me there was no snow and no risk of snow, plus i dont hav any snow chains and if i did i would not know what the hell to do with them anyway. i first stopped at the mirror lakes which were very pretty and then at the Gunn nature walk, and also the chasm ...

Delightful Milford Sounds

... up more passangers and have some brekky while here.
Then stopped at the Mirror Lakes which were lakes that refleceted everything like a mirror. The tour guide was quite informative along the way.
We drove through the snowy mountain pass and there were signs everywhere saying "Danger Avalanche Area" !! That didnt feel too comforting and apparently some times they block the road off in and out of the area because the risk is too ...

On the road to the fiords...

Today we got up ridiculously early because we had approximately 6 hours of driving ahead of us…it ended up being a bit more, because there were so many amazing sights that we had to pull over multiple times for picture opportunities.

This morning, we left Dunedin and headed west to the Fiordland National Park, more specifically, to Milford ...

Road Trip - Episode 2

Welcome back…

The next morning we had a lie in, only joking! Bacon and egg sandwiches for the hardy travelers before we put on brave faces and headed out into the rain. Sadly it was due to rain for the whole day but we were in fjordland and heading for Milford Sound which gets 7 metres of rain a year so we always expected to see it in the rain. The receptionist at the hostel told us that in fact it is even more impressive then as the waterfalls are ...

MILFORD SOUND

Here are some of our favorite pictures of Milford. They don't do it justice - they don't even come close. This is something you must see for yourself!!!
---

We have moved on and are now enjoying the southern most part of the island. After spending 6 nights in Queenstown, 3 camping and 3 in an awesome hostel, we were ready to hit the road again.

First we went west along the coast of Lake Wakatipu, which is the ...

Slartibartfast's Pride

With a full tank of petrol, a boot full of food and a tube of industrial strength insect repellent, we rattled out of Te Anau towards Milford Sound; which should really be called Milford Fiord as it is a drowned glacial valley, not a river basin. (Nothing like travel for improving the mind!)

The Milford Road winds up past Lake Te Anau, through river basins and past mountains, and then approaches a seemingly impassable rock ...

Queenstown – Milford Sound

(Originally published at http://www.troysgonewalkabout.com)
< br>We were back on the coach for the first time in three days and set for more monotonously spectacular lakes and mountains. But first off we had to stop at the original bungy site at Kawarau Bridge – the most popular leap for those only choosing to do a single AJ Hackett jump, and the last one for those who had elected to do all three. With it being the most accessible ...
