Lucca to Genoa
Today's journey turned out to be a little longer than we had imagined though we are typing this from hotel number 3 in Genoa, so we clearly made it in one piece.
It started off wet and yukky in Lucca and we got the chance to find out that the windscreen wipers worked rather well - and that Sergio is surprisingly refined with the top closed. Bob even fits - just.
The first hour was refreshingly hassle free and quite a fun ...
Overbooked
Flight on time to Genoa...bumpy landing with Ryanair and a woman shouting like we were going to crash....
Arrived at Melia Genoa, and overbooked so they sent me to 5 star Grand Hotel Savoia (lots of history).
No pool here, but gym and jacuzzi in the terrace upstairs. But they upgraded me to the Suite which is fantastic and its downtown so I walk straight to the port in 2 mins.

Get Lost!!
Last night I walked around to try and familiarize myself with the city. Since I spent so much time trying to find my way to the hostel it was a wise decision.
I stayed close to the hostel and found the second train terminal near a flea market. I walked through and did some window shopping. Nothing really of interest to me.
I planned a little for the today and then went to bed. Boy was the bed ever ...
Train to Genoa
... I'm hoping to make a day trip to there to see the Tower of Pisa when I go to Florence. I was told its a quick trip and there is nothing really to see but the tower.
We keep going through these long tunnels with glimpses of the ocean and rocky coastline as we exit and entry the next tunnel. I'm assuming we are going through mountains.
After a maze of small streets and poor street signs I made it ...
When in Rome, Venice, Florence, etc...
... bringing in their daily hauls, the tourists wandering around looking for the best sunset point (which btw we certainly found). Unfortunately the area was devastated by flooding last October and is still recovering. Many of the paths between the villages were washed away and the most beautiful village, Vernazza, has been terribly scarred. Nonetheless we walked, explored and loved this beautiful place.
And we ate. And drank. Oh how we ate and drank.
