... We had about a 4 hr drive ahead of us to Elk Rock State Park, just outside of Des Moines, Iowa. Once we got to the park, we had a few hiccups; first, the address on the website took us down this dirt road that ended in the lake, and no campsite...finally we found out the way to the right campsite, only to find that our reservations didn't go through online...at one point we thought we were out of luck, but then found one spot ...

... We arrived in the evening where John, his friend Luke and the owner of the farm Father Bud.
The next day, we went to Williamsburg, a few miles west of Iowa City. We rode about 110km (68 miles) and were surprised by the huge hills. Dan and Nancy, from warmshowers, were able to host us. We had a lovely time with them, they provided us with a delicious meal and gave us a tour of their town.

Driving day number 2! Today we logged 447 miles. Piece of cake. It was mostly an uneventful ride. Here are a few thoughts from today: Illinois- mostly flat rolling fields of corn.....for miles and miles.....The skyline dotted with wind turbines, manicured highways and the prettiest rest stops I've ever seen.
