Historical Traveler Reviews Riad Tizwa Marrakech

Excellent service

from HoshiBerkshire

We never actually stayed in this riad. However, we were trying to book a riad for the last week in March and paid a deposit on a room in Riad Tizwa. Daniel - the guy who owns it, went to great lengths to let me know that the room I had booked was not ensuite. After some confusion we decided not to take the room very late in the day. He had every right to keep our deposit, but insisted that he wanted us to have a good holiday and waved the fee. What a nice man, he was so helpful and we were really disappointed that we didn't get to stay at his riad. If this service is anything to go by I would rate them very highly. - Thank you Daniel.

Quel merveilleux endroit où se détendre

from barbarellalondon

What a wonderfull place to relax

from barbarellalondon

We were lucky enough to come to Riad Tizwa for our honeymoon and what

an oasis of tranquility it is, ideally situated close to the centre of town and the souks. It retains its true elements of rustic charm whilst catering for your every modern need. It is an intimate environment where you easily get to meet and mix with your fellow guests. The staff are all you could ask for, polite ,discreet and incredibly helpfull. The whole experience just made us want to come back for more.

The most wonderful holiday possible

from Tosha

Our family of four, two parents, plus two adult daughters, stayed at Riad Tizwa last September. We booked through their website. Met at the railway station (we travelled the entire journey from London by train over four days!) by Fatima and a driver, we were looked after from day one. Malika and Yusef were the only other staff we saw.

Walking down the short alley from a busy road and then through the huge door was like walking into something from Arabian nights. The peace was incredible and the scent of rose oil and petals on the floor was delightful. This was repeated nightly.

We booked rooms 1 and 3, both with en suite bathrooms, and both very spacious, especially room 1. The housekeeping was faultless, with clothes taken away for washing on request. Shirts came back from the local laundry within 36 hours and at an incredibly low cost.

We had the lovely experience of being the only people there for the first few days, and as the staff don't live in, it was 'our place' for the evening. Candles lit every night threw wonderful patterns onto the walls, and with the rose scent, it was magical.

We only had one evening meal there - which was beautifully cooked - but the breakfasts were huge, fresh fruit, yoghurt, breads etc, and served wherever you wanted them. Fatima also escorted us to other places to eat before she went home herself, and recommended trips - we went to as many places as we could. She even brought in a local lady to henna our feet - safer than some of the hennas used in the square. Oh, and Les Bains de Marrakech is to die for.

Marrakech was intoxicating, everything you expect, including the hustle, yes, we got ripped off at times, but if you go with good humour you just shrug your shoulders and enjoy it.

We would recommend the riad wholeheartedly.

Fantastic private house, like a 5 star hotel

from fred64

I went recently to Riad Tizwa with the star of my record label to do a photo shoot in North Africa. We used this Riad as a base, however it was so beautiful that we used it as a location as well. The roof terrrace is totally private and well apointed, and I was able to feed the whole crew in a style which simply amazed them. the staff were amazing freindly, and the food was the best quality, and the winbe selection delicious. It was easily possible to eat better food by staying at home!

When ever we needed a car or a taxi, for an airport transfer or a long trip into the atrlas mountains, the house manager was totally efficient. The rooms were very comfortable, and huge, and the bathroioms were excellent.

the only problem that we had was that the tiny tortoise that lives on the roof insisted on biting our fingers. He obviously thought we were lettuce.

A real treat!

Riad Tizwa stands out for two key reasons: great location - walking distance to all key sites in the old town - and excellent warm and friendly service. I stayed a weekend with four girl friends. Staff made us feel very welome with some really nice touches - tea/drinks on the roof terrace with delicious nibbles of fresh amonds and olives. Breakfast a real spread too - fresh orange juice, yoghurts, fruits, pastries all delicious. Rooms all have their own charm with some luxurious touches - crisp white bed linen and ipod stations in every room. Tastefully chic with a more individual feel than I have experienced in a hotel. We all thoroughly enjoyed the hamam - added to experiencing a different culture first hand. I found Marrakech great fun - you need to be up for a haggle in the souks but all seemed to be done with a smile and a joke. We were recommended great restaurants which were a feast. Excellent value for money - both Riad Tizwa and Marrakech in general. Strongly recommend a stay here - my husband and children are all desparate to go!

Wonderful Riad, highly recommend

from naebother

This Riad is an amazing place to stay and base yourself in Marrakech. We had a blissfully relaxing 10 days visiting lots of amazing attractions.

I would highly recommend this riad, the facilities are fantastic including there own haman, the in house menu of food and refreshments are excellent and really good value and also the staff are so friendly.

Superb hospitality

from DeptfordFerret

What a difference to bleak, miserable London. The greeting at the riad was as warm as the beautiful Morrocan weather. Just around the corner from the walled old town, the riad is a perfect base for exploring morroco. they also keep a good stock of beer in which is handy as the country is pretty dry (though we did find a few good clubs). And Malika doesn't mind if you follow her every move as she uses the tagines to cook both meat and the vegetables. Inm fact it was hard to tear ourselves away from the cooking.

The only problem was which room to choose as each was stunning in a splendid morrocan/boutique hotel way.

All in all a stunning and relaxing week away.

Beautiful tranquil oasis in the heart of Marrakech

from Halo44

I have just returned from Morocco where I spent 6 nights in Marrakech at Riad Tizwa - booked on-line via Hip Marrakech; e-mail: [-] for more info. The riad is tucked away down a small quiet alleyway off a main road - only 5 minutes walk to the famous souks and a few minutes more to Jemaa F'nar the famous square. Location is ideal as it was very easy to find everything and directions were simple from Riad Tizwa. Although so close to everything the riad was really peaceful and once inside its doors it is very calming. It has a lovely salon off the courtyard where they will serve you mint tea and dates and nuts (all included in your stay) - or lunch or evening meals if you order in advance and at a reasonable extra charge. Breakfast was included - and the biggest bonus for us - as we had come away to chill out and relax - was that you can eat breakfast at whatever time of day you wish and wherever you wish in the riad. We either ate ours in our room or on the lovely roof terrace usually at a leisurely 10.30am/11am. The riad is quite large but only has 6 rooms as they have used the space to create larger bedrooms with their own en suite bathrooms rather than squash everything in like some of the other riads we saw. Ask for Room 1 as it is really large and beautiful, with a very large bed and stunning turquoise limestone plaster bedhead with private dressing area, table and 2 chairs, settee and doors leading on to a massive bathroom; with bath, shower etc and loads of towels. Top quality bathrobes were provided for our stay and there is a hairdrier in the room as well as an Ipod docking station. There isn't a safety deposit box but to be honest you don't need one. The riad is totally secure and the friendly and efficient staff are always available. The overall atmosphere is like a home from home with a very laid back and welcoming feel to it. There is a hamam onsite which you can use if you give the staff a few hours notice to fire it up - and a big bonus is the free pick up from the airport (e-mail your flight details in advance) and a free taxi ride back to the airport at the end of your stay. We ate in one evening and they cooked us a great 3 course meal including a lovely lamb tajine. The decor is traditional mixed with a European contemporary feel - it's immaculately clean and the service is faultless. We met the 2 owners whilst we were there - 2 Scottish brothers Richard and Daniel - who have really made an effort to make the riad as relaxing and as welcoming as possible. The staff helped me with guide prices on things I wanted to buy in the souks - as it can be a minefield haggling down from inflated tourist prices when shopping in Marrakech - and gave us loads of useful tips. The day to day staff speak Arabic and French but also speak pretty good English. I couldn't fault this place and after our experiences in the Riads in Essaouira - we realised just how fantastic Riad Tizwa was and how much of an effort they made. If you plan a trip to Marrakech in Dec/Jan/Feb - it can be very cold when out fo the sun - especially at night - but Riad Tizwa has radiators in it's rooms and heating isn't a problem. These are far more effective than the traitional wood buring fires which really don't heat the rooms sufficiently as we learnt in Essauoira where we froze! Yussuf, Mohammed, Sanna and Malika - and the ladies in the kitchen - are fantastic and it is rare to find such a great welcome. I would recommend a stay here to anyone and my husband and myself definitely plan to go back again with friends.

Paeceful pampering corner

from labusca75

We stayed at Riad Tizwa in January. We loved it!

It is the perfect place to stay and to come back to after a day in the bustling Medina. From the minute the door is opened and the mint tea offered to you, you can kick your shoes off and relax whilst lounging in the salon or on the roof. The staff is lovely and always ready to attend to you with a smile, whether for dinner, arranging for a 'delivery' massage or taking you to a good carpet shop.

Breakfast is delicious and will follow you in any corner of the Riad you may wish to take it - in good sunny days I would definitely recommend the roof!

Good value for money too... a top spot!
