Holidays Galore!

... beginning of the second half and then when there was only about 4 minutes left in the game (of course there was no visible clock, so you had to guess) Peru scored!!! Everyone started going nuts! And then we some how managed to score within the last 3 minutes of the game to win!!! It was such a great game to go to! Afterwards we had to walk for about 20 minutes to get to any bus or subway stop. After about 1 minute of our walk we were all drenched! When I got ...

Argentina... BOOM!

... head a beuty.

After geting kicked out of the Hostel Inn as we had only booked 2 nights and didnt re-book, thus allowing someone to take our beds, we moved to the hostel inn Tango City which was just down the road. Here we slept in an 8 bed dorm, very squishy, and met our first fellow Australians. One night we were tired so slept from 9pm to 2am, then woke up, felt ok, and decided to start drinking in our room and go out. We had bought a 950ml bottle of vodka for ...

Buenos Aires

... been enjoying the Argentinean Malbec perhaps a little too generously and a group of young local lads helped to translate my incoherent babbling to assure that I made it back to my hotel safely. Buenos Aires is home of the Tango which the city is famous for and so while I was here I was delighted to be taught to Tango in the most basic style before sitting down to a magnificent 3 course meal while taking in a show where the supremely talented played out their ...

Why you shouldn´t leave things to the last day

... parks to MALBA. By this time itīs maybe 1 so I stop at the (recommended by Time Out) cafe (really a quite posh restaurant) attached to the museum for a really fab lunch (blueberry juice served in a martini glass - a real highlight). I then head for the actual museum only to find it is shut on Tuesday - devastating! I will just add it to the list of things I will have to do when I return to this fine city.

Things I May or May Not Miss About Buenos Aires

... the washing machines are semi-automatic. I can not wait to go home and dump my clothes into the washer and just walk away. Sigh... Although, BA is so hot, that my clothes do dry really quickly when I hang them up (inside, of course). So, that's good, I guess...right? 4) Starting the night at 2AM. This is actually pretty cool, you can chill out from work/school, even take a nap before going out to party. I kind of ...

CHAPTER 1: INTRO AND ARGENTINE CUSTOMS ESCAPE

... day and tango lessons in the evening. Being Italian he has taken to the language like a natural, and despite a checkered career of salsa dancing and the 2 step cervesa shuffle, his teacher assures him that he has a natural talent for El Tango. Professional salesmanship not withstanding, this artillery of skills sees sure for me to be playing the mute wingman role for the rest of the journey throughout Latin America. Throw down my bags at the hostel and its straight into action ...

Argentina: Buenos Aires (part 2)

Well it is now Sunday and it is raining (and a little bit cold!). We havenīt really done a lot this weekend. The A/C in our apartment still wasnīt fixed so yesterday we moved to another apartment in the same block. In comparison to the old one it is like a penthouse apartment. Huge balcony (although more like a small garden), and the apartment is split into 2 by screens so it feels like the bedroom is separate which is ...

Day 4: Recoleta Feria, Tango lesson, Tango music

... have quite a reputation. With much anticipation, the doors are finally opened. We pay our 160 pesos for the show and are shown to our table. Another couple is at the table and it is immediately clear that they expect the table to be just for them. We gather this by their body language and tone of voice, although we don't understand what they are saying. They talk to the waitress and the greeter and are told that this is how it is ...

Day 202 - Buenos Aires

... mmmmm....

Katie's smoked salmon salad was also great and we washed both down nicely with a 40 peso bottle of Malbec, which was perfect.

It was a bit too much food really, but we had to keep moving, this time heading to the 'national bus station' down by the docks.

A stroll through Buenos Aires

... tickets, we return towards the city and ascend the English Clock Tower, a gift from the Anglo-Argentine community in 1910. Magnificent views from the top over the city and River Plate. The tower is located in Argentine Air Force Square and is an uneasy neighbour of the poignant Monument to the Fallen in the Malvinas (Falklands) War. Back in town, we cross the magnificent Avenida 9 de Julio to the Colon ...
