... Cockermouth where Wordsworth was born. Grasmere was our next stop to see Dove Cottage where he lived. Grasmere is a lovely village but it was overrun by tourists (especially of the retired variety!) By this time we had had enough of being tourists and finding somewhere to park the car so we continued to Windermere. Our "Cobbler's Cottage" is right in the heart of town and we were very pleased to have arrived before our neighbours drove ...

The track was steep, so huffing and puffing Paul and I were going along ok - then Kym sung out that they'd lost the track as they began to headed parallel across the hill face. Boring I know, but another great ...

We left Glasgow with rain suits on - again. Today was supposed to be clear - I guess that information didn't get through to Glasgow. We will return to Glasgow on June 13th, the day after Neil and Isobel leave to go to Australia to stay in our house for a couple of months.

Our destination for the night was Carlisle but we had a short detour to visit a town forever etched in Scottish history. On December 21st 1988 the wreckage of Pan Am Flight 103 crashed on ...

    Hike and Cruise

A travel blog entry by theriggs on Jun 04, 2015

Today was an absolute highlight of the trip so far. Our host at The Westbourne suggested a 6 mile hike to take advantage of our first mild and sunny day for a while. So with a hearty breakfast under our belts we headed off to Elterwater, the starting point for our hike. And what a hike it was. Covering a range of different landscapes, from riverside, to lakeside, to waterfalls and ...
