... up, skipped past the 3 hour queue for the cable car (alarm bells were already ringing!) and stepped on the first of what must have been thousands of steps. The way up was tough, but the camaraderie between us and our Chinese friends was funny, with us not being able to walk more than ten minutes or so without someone asking to have their photo taken with a couple of sweaty Westerners!

... was none too pleased at the amount of times she fell on him. -10 points for Chengdu city so far. We got the metro once in town to our hostel (The Lazybones Inn) and checked into our room. We found the bin in our room was full of garbage, the bathroom stunk of cigarette smoke and the bed sheets were in a mess all over the place, after asking at reception it turned out the last guests had only just left and the would clean the room at some point...
