... but like I said, we were in the center of all the tourists sites so it is a popular place for Americans to come and vacation. In addition, they mentioned that this was there peak season so they have a lot of people coming to vacation at this time. After what was a disappointing Super Bowl (I was going for the Broncos), we headed back to the hotel and decided to call it a night to wake up early for the next day. We were tired from the long travel day as well.
We drove 3 hrs north to La Fortuna, a small town in the foothills of Arenal volcano.
We all picked the day trips we wanted to do the next day. Some people opted for caving, or canyoneering or white water rafting...... I choose a boat trip in a nature reserve!! However the wildlife we saw was amazing!! Well worth it!
We also visited volcanic hot springs, a series of pools with varying hot water temperatures from luke warm to practically scalding all heated by the volcano. ...

... it was utterly freezing, I was cold for 30 minutes AFTER I got out of the boat and I was sat in the sun. I had two wetsuits on and later a hood, which made it marginally better. BRR. We did our second dive with a group of DSD's which is a discover scuba dive. You still do pool work and so on but don't get certified. They were lovely but oh my. Does anyone remember that Chinese girl on my open water course? The one who had terrible buoyancy and basically attacked everything ...
