Historical Traveler Reviews twentytwo Cape Town

There's only one place worth staying in Sunny Cape Town !

from buttermilk

22 Montrose is a slick hideaway at the base of Table Mountain - there are stunning views over glittering Cape Town and beyond...

The stylishly decorated bedrooms have massive doublebeds, full mod-cons and generous sized bathrooms. They are clean, spacious and airy with balcony access.

Arranged around an enticing pool, 22 Montrose is informal and hugely comfortable - the place where your hosts and fellow guests become friends for life after a few G&T's !

Absolutely fabulous!

from shcary

The moment we arrived at *twentytwo* we knew that we had arrived in a special place. From its stunning location and design, *twentytwo* was easily the most elegant and aesthetically beautiful B&B that we had ever stayed in. All of the rooms were warm and welcoming down to every last detail (from the absurdly comfortable down comforters to the loofahs in the bathtub). Ours had a panoramic view of the Cape Town skyline, and we could sit on the balcony and watch the sunset over the bay.

What makes *twentytwo* so special, however, was not just the fabulous design, but its owners Allan & Dominic. They truly made us feel like we were at home, and went far, far beyond the call of your everyday B&B owner (e.g., driving us downtown one evening, setting up our rental car, etc.). The homemade breakfasts were also spectacular (you must have the fruit salad). It was truly a pleasure to stay there, and when we return to Cape Town, there is no doubt where we will be staying again (and sending all of our friends)!

Twentytwo is the most beautiful hotel in capetown

from anonymous

We have just returned from a 2 week holliday in South Africa.

The last few days we stayed at twentytwo.

Wouw, this was fantastic. The owners Alan and Dominic are the most wonderful people.

They are there for you constantly. The service and breakfast in this place are heaven. You have the feeling this is your home. It is so beautiful with all these views. You do not want to leave your room. Our room had a nice big balcony with the views of Cape Town and mountains. They also have a beautiful designed pool area. I've recomanded the place to all my friends and family. The only place to go in Cape Town!

Twintytwo - a beautiful place!

from anonymous

"Twentytwo" is one of the most beautiful places we've ever seen. It is a wonderful house with breathtaking views (to Table Mountain and to the town) in the quiet Montrose Avenue, situated in Oranjezicht, an elegant suburb of Cape Town. The exquisite rooms are decorated with much love and every detail is right.

Our hosts, Allan and Dominic, are very kind, polite and charming people. They make your wishes come true. They offered hot or cold drinks whenever we wanted; they gave good advices for places to go to or restaurants to have dinner and they made the reservations for us.

I'm sure: We will return! And when you ever go to Cape Town - there is only one place to stay: "Twentytwo". We felt home there and that it is what you will do, too.

Home from home

from anonymous

Home from home, actually I lied, its better than that! 'Twenty Two' is a stylish relative newcomer to the elegant and leafy Oranjezicht district, located just beneath the soaring Table Mountain yet only minutes away from the city centre. Owned and run by two English chaps, 'Twenty Two' is elegant welcoming and peacful with fantastic views of Table Mountain and the Cape Town city scape. Modern contemporary styling abounds through out the whole hotel/guest house which oozes attention to detail backed up by attentive non intrusive service. We reccommend hiring a car as although centrally located the beaches and seafront are 15-20 minutes away.

Extreemly helpful concierge service; comfortable modern rooms and beds; great breakfasts served on the terrace; relaxing days swimming in the elegant pool, sipping a glass of South African wine or sunning for a while on the stylish loungers---fantastic, hard to beat, we will be back!

Great place to stay

from Hawtrey

Twentytwo is very well situated enjoying a quiet location in an elevated position with views of both Table Mountain and the centre of Cape Town. The view of Cape Town at night from the upper terrace is quite stunning.

There is plenty of street parking outside the property and all the tourist attractions are within easy reach by car or taxi. Although in a residential area there is a very good café/deli at the end of the street.

The house has recently been extensively refurbished and the bedrooms and guest areas are stylishly decorated. The pool and decking are similarly attractive.

The bed was probably the most comfortable I have slept in, away from my own home, with luxurious cotton bedding. Our room had a large walk-in shower in the en-suite bathroom. The bedroom was light and airy with its own terrace.

Breakfast was served either in the room or next to the pool with a choice of light or cooked available.

The resident owners, who previously lived in London, are extremely helpful and ever ready with suggestions regarding restaurants, sightseeing and trips out of Cape Town. Our holiday got off to a wonderful start when they collected us from the airport in a classic Daimler.

The whole stay was more like visiting old friends than the impersonal experience one normally gets. We were made extremely welcome and nothing was too much trouble for our hosts.

We have recommended Twentytwo to friends who have had an equally enjoyable stay.

Stylish living in stunning city location

I stayed at Twentytwo recently and will definitely choose it again for my next visit to Capetown. This is a fantastic base for a stay in this laid back city. Twentytwo has all the style and elegance of a boutique hotel - plus the personal service of our two charming and friendly British hosts. Twentytwo is centrally located for exploring Capetown - everywhere seems to be just a few minutes drive away (driving and navigation were much easier than we anticipated). Table Mountain is only 3 mins away; the Waterfront, Camps Bay and Clifton all within easy reach. After a busy day exploring, Twentytwo is a quiet haven to return to for a swim in the immaculate pool, or simply sit on the sun deck looking at the incredible views of Table Mountain and the city. The rooms are all individually designed - each with stylish, modern bathrooms. It was a real treat to return to such a lovely room, far more glam than you might normally expect from B&B accommodation. Car hire, taxi bookings and directions were efficiently arranged for us by our hosts, who also made excellent recommendations for the best restaurants and bars - ranging from new, 'in-crowd' hot spots to classic Capetown haunts. Highly recommended.

What a Gem

We had such a wonderful time staying at "twenty-two" I know you will too! Dominic and Allan have put together a wonderful home from home for you to base your time in Cape Town. The house has been wonderfully appointed from the lovely individual bedrooms and great en-suites to the public areas and the gorgeous pool (so necessary when you need to cool of on those hot South African afternoons!). The service is pitched at just the right level with every need catered for. Both our hosts were always on hand to give advice and provide "concierge" style service for us to be able to explore many of Cape Town's excellent restaurants. For us it was a home from home and one which we have booked to return to next January!

We went back 4 more

We stayed at 22 for 5 nights and on our return to CT stayed a further 5 nights, doesn't that say it all!!!!! A delight to stay in such a beautful house with 2 'fab' hosts - who became our friends. On our next trip to CT we wouldn't stay anywher else. M & S

An undiscovered jewel on Table Mountain

from ribbonofmoonlight

An oasis of style and calm! This bijou hotel is owned and run by 2 charming and helpful British hosts, whose home this is. It hasn't been open long and everything is pristine. They have clearly spared no expense: the rooms are all individual and each is more stunning than the last. "Discreet luxury" describes it in a nutshell.

The house is in the area known as Oranjezicht, halfway up Table Mountain, so the views are spectacular - you can see for miles across the bay. The street is leafy and pleasant, with beautiful homes all around. Just two minutes walk away is a fantastic deli and cafe called Carlucci's which serves absolutely delicious food, and a really good cup of coffee. The whole place has a residential feel to it; we felt quite safe strolling in the sunshine.

Our room at 22 was just gorgeous, with a really comfortable bed - wonderful cotton sheets! - and a stylish shower room with high quality shower gel and shampoo. There seemed to be great attention to detail in making sure we were comfortable.

Breakfast was scrumptious, and served with just the right degree of friendliness. We enjoyed a quick swim in the sparkling clean pool and lounged on the sundeck. Bliss!

Although there is no public transport nearby, it was only a quick cab ride to the centre of Cape Town, and the owners were helpful (and knowledgeable) in recommending sights to see, restaurants etc.

Suggest you hire a car to go beyond Cape Town - there is so much to experience outside the city. And ask for advice on staying safe; although we had no problems at all, it certainly helps to be aware of the potential pitfalls. After all, this is still a very young country, \nd its past tensions have been well documented.

We loved the whole place, and can't wait to go again. And we'll return to 22 for sure; we felt so at home there!
