... The story was told of the trial, which in short had a bribed jury of miners (kids), Jack getting off because of the latter, and then 2 months later retried in another state and getting hanged. The whole afternoon was a lot of fun and was told as true as it is believed to be. After that we drove I-90 back to Rapid City as we'd been told that there was a Walmart there and parked up for the night in yet another 24hr Walmart car park with plenty of others for company.

A restful sleep, the first in our tent. I awoke to a smooth breeze pushing through the trees above, the placid aquatic landings of white pelicans in the lake fronting the tent, the gentle raindrops tapping our tents as we awoke….awww, dammit! We packed up our very wet gear and departed late, planning to get as close to Mount Rushmore as possible by day's end.

... to Mount Rushmore! We love to drive!!!! I will just say awesome!!! I can't believe I was at Mt Rushmore. Leaving there we went to Custer State Park and drove the Needles Highway...very cool. There are many small tunnels to drive through one way! Several stops and hairpin turns we survived the needles. Drove off on the Wild Life Loop in the park ...
