Historical Traveler Reviews Yelton Manor Bed and Breakfast South Haven
We stayed at Yelton Manor on Feb. 6-8. It is the "Four Seasons" of Bed & Breakfasts. Rooms are beautifully decorated, romantic, & impeccably clean. There is romance in the air. The breakfasts were delicious and the evening appetizers a delightful touch. Right across the street from Lake Michigan so perfect even in Feb. for a nice walk.We had a wonderful time and will definitely return.
What a Wonderful Weekend
The Manor is such a wonderful place to escape to pampering, peace and a glorious surrounding. We loved our much needed weekend at a beautiful home with wonderful hosts.
We Loved the Yelton Manor!
South Haven is a little, lazy lakeshore town, quieter than Saugatuck and an easy 2 hour trip from Central Michigan. Right next to the sandy beach is The Yelton Manor, an inn both luxurious and relaxing at the same time. My partner and I felt well cared for by the attentive innkeepers, firm mattress, cleanliness, great food and lavish amenities, with a wide enough variety books to satisfy all tastes, music, and an extensive and up-to-date collection of videos to view in one's suite. We have found a home away from home!
I came to The Yelton Manor just to relax and be away from my world for a few days. The Manor really creates a mood for escaping. I watched 6 movies (free!) and buried myself in the shelves of books. Food was great, hosts were busy making everything nice but were always available for chat and information, rooms are comfortable and quiet. I am especially fussy about *clean*, and this inn is impeccable. It snowed while we were there and it felt like I was in a magical snowglobe! I highly recommend The Yelton Manor.
Best of All
I have stayed at all three of the so-called "better" B&Bs in South Haven, and Yelton Manor has the other two beat, hands down. For starters, it's the only one with true live-in, hands-on owners, and to me that makes all the difference. I do not go to a B&B so I can meet and be served by teenage hired help...I can go to a hotel for that! I loved the Yelton's nice hosts, great location near the beach, truly gourmet food and thoughtful amenities like the books and CD stereos.
It's the only inn for me now.
Peace, Quiet and Romance
The ultimate get away from it all destination for you and the one you love. We can withdrawl into our own wonderful corner of the universe filled with great books, wonderful gardens and luxurious appointments.
Fabulous rooms, excellent food and charming hosts combine to create an extraordinary venue.
Vestibule of Heaven right in South Haven!!
Looking for an oasis where a balanced blend of beauty, comfort, a library that will WOW you, top-notch hospitality and delectable appetizers and breakfasts will tantalize your taste buds?? Then come to the vestibule of heaven right in South Haven. The Yelton Manor has a charm that puts most other choices down the list. I don't know what the 1st and 2nd winners were this past year but when I heard that Yelton Manor was rated the 3rd BEST B & B in our entire USA, I wasn't surprised in the least. With hosts who are the mosts and an ambiance that is breathless, you'll want to return again as soon as you leave the drive way to be homeward bound.
Lovely, fun, perfect
Yelton Manor is now the only B&B we will ever go to! It has the ultimate getaway location (right on Lake Michigan), but it's much more than that. It's like being at a beautiful home of loving friends who just want you to have the best time possible. We paid winter rates, which are very reasonable...the book collection alone is worth the price of staying. The Christmas decor is elegant and extravagant, but we can't wait to come back in the summer to see the gardens. Hosts and staff are total pros, but fun, connected, really nice. Rooms are beautiful, perfectly clean. Town is small, nothing going on at all.
Only two hours out of Chicago, so we'll be going to Yelton Manor frequently. Awesome place.
While there was much to enjoy at Yelton Manor, at over $200 per night, we were expecting something a bit more indulgent. We never met our "hosts." There were lists of rules and reminders to tip the housekeeping staff in several locations throughout the guesthouse and room. Ask for a clear definition of "lake view," if that is important to you. In all fairness, the room was lovely and the presentation of breakfast was delightful, but why push video tape movies on us when the television in the room was all of 13 inches in size? Fortunately, we were not there to watch movies. Honestly, the feeling we got from our stay there was that we were more of a necessary inconvience than guests. South Haven is nice, but we liked Saugatuck better and will make that our destination next time.
Perfect Charm at Yelton Manor
Over a period of a number of years we stayed at Yelton Manor at least 8 times. The charm and relaxed atmosphere drew us back time after time.
The location is perfect. The hosts are wonderful and you cant beat the chocolate chip cookies.....

Travel Blogs from South Haven
... Wednesday morning. Leaving is kinda a bummer because it's one of my last times to hang with the Seniors. Other than hanging around, I'll be planning things to do in the 31 hour car ride, which will probably consist of stocking up on podcasts (Ear Biscuits and Movie Fights are some good ones) and creating some killer music playlists.
Update on the Steadicam internship: I took a last second Steadicam class over this J-term at Taylor just to be more prepared if ...
Carol and I are touring the upper Lower Peninsula and the UP (Upper Peninsula if you're not a Michigander). We will be camping in our camper at Sleeping Bear Dunes, St. Ignace (overlooking Big Mac), Tahquamenon Falls, Wells State Park and Door County in Wisconsin. The colors are beautiful although it's a bit chilly (mid 40s the last few days). We're so thankful to have a camper with ...
I hope I didn't overwhelm you with all the pics I sent out yesterday, but I finally got a travel blog that I can understand and I wanted to share some photos of our trips so far as well as some from the more distant past (Watervliet 4-5 years ago). The blog is called TRAVELPOD and it's free if you'd like to start your own. I'm a little ...

We made it down to the beach in time to catch a beautiful sunset and have a cruise around town. Despite being a lake this place really did feel like a beach, with the white sand and water stretching as far as the eye could see.

I can't even believe it's August! So much has gone on in the past few weeks that I don't know where to begin! The babies are over 4 months old already (I don't even want to talk about it...), I turned 32 (although I pretend to be 29), the boys rode on their first plane ride to Michigan, we saw family and friends, celebrated Michaele and Rick's 35th wedding anniversary, I slept 7 straight hours which I hadn't done in 6 ...
