Our drive from Lake Chelan took us through the Wenatchee Valley, the Apple Capital of the World. We drove along the Columbia River past miles of lush green orchards--apples, pears, cherries and apricots--that had been planted on the semi-arid flatlands and foothills along the river. Everywhere the farmers were irrigating their fields and groves. (How long will the river be able to sustain this agricultural use of its waters?) ...

... they prepared a yummy barbecued steak and potato supper, with a walk in the garden to pick some ripe cherries from his cherry tree.

Tomorrow evening we go on to Seattle where we'll join Dan's nephew, Spencer, for supper. Spencer works for Amazon in their Kindle security department. Then on to my sister Shari's house for the next two nights.
