We left Vacaville and headed north through the farmlands. We then turned left into the mountains. What a beautiful trip to Willits. The KOA here, is geared for kids and has everything from a petting zoo to a splash park including a least a million kids. ... an amateur production of Les Miserable. Pretty good apart from parts of the orchestral bits left a lot to be desired. but for amateurs they were very good.
Yesterday we took a very twisting route down to our present destination .
But before getting on this road, we went through the Avenue of the Giants as the redwoods are called, and yes they sure make this 6fter seem tiny!
I think the drive down that road was a real test of nerves as Paul ...

... s in Mendocino. It is located upstairs in a building and you have a nice view of the harbor. Our food was quite delicious and we had a nice visit with the bartender who had grown up in the area and so knew the area. Another couple sat down next to us and we got to talking. They had just bought a house near Russian Gulch State Park and they and a view of the lighthouse. Had a nice visit with them as well.

Back to the campground and called it a day.

Whales, lighthouse and other adventures

... sliced tomatoes and spinach. Very nice and while we were there, more whales appeared. What a treat this day was.

Back to the Big River and walked a ways with the dogs and then decided to turn around because it was sunnier than we had expected. Back to the campsite where we had a shared meal of black beans, rice, guacamole, pico de gallo and wine. Had a nice visit and then off to bed.

... docks as we passed by them. They did not seem to be very interested in us. We had also seen otter briefly. One of the most interesting things we saw was an abandoned houseboat in the middle of the river. Not sure what happened to it but there were obviously belongings piled up outside the houseboat and it did look in disrepair and not in use.

On the way back to shore we finally located ...
