The morning was overcast but we decided to go out anyway to the North Cascades National Park. Clouds were hanging low around the mountains that we could see and then about 1/2 hour into our trip, the sun came out and it was a glorious day!

The North Cascades National Park is in northwest Washington and just as beautiful as the other National Parks we have seen. There ...

But before I left the Mt Baker forest I took the rangers advice and did a quick hike up to the assuredly beautiful, but unfortunately named, Goat Lake. With my typical level of planning I set off without checking the scale of the map. Surely I could quickly do this loop, ...

When we were fillng up with fuel there were a lot of cars from BC that were filling up as well as filling jerry cans. One woman had her boot filled with jerry cans she was filling as well as gallons & gallons of milk. It's only just over the border so they must come over here to do there shopping.

... will need to research a bit more just what all this park entails.

We had just enough time to make the Mukilteo Ferry and head to our hotel near SeaTac airport. It was a bit of a whirlwind day but enough time to squeeze in a few extra sites, learn a bit more about the area and decide where we would love to visit on our next trip to Washington. National Geographic Traveler calls this loop one of America's Grandest most Spectacular Drives. And it was!
