... and see them “fire” some balloons (which is basically lighting up at night), they are also doing this across the river in Louisiana so we see both.. cool. At 7:30 they pull a barge into the river and we get a 20 minute fireworks show,, very good too! Then the band starts… good songs (old rock) but the lead singer is terrible so we leave after 5 ...

... of me, one dead and doing nothing on the road. Two cracked and very dead armadillos. Birds, cows, horses and goats. I passed may farms along the way today that I could see their livestock.
I just made it into Louisiana before the last downpour started. The hotel I booked into is a 'budget' Inn and my room looks like a 60's basement (dark paneling etc). Still it's cheap and dry.
Wonder if I'll get to New Orleans tomorrow?

... 100 mansions in the tiny town built by millionaires who made their fortune by trading slaves, cotton etc along the river. Bad for them, great for us. Tried not to walk around with jaws dropped - the contrast to the previous nights made it even better. Welcome drinks, homemade cookies, a shower (luxury!), huge southern breakfast, amazing furnishings and friendly southern hosts. Watched the sunset over the river, slept in a real bed... ...

... new people. The problem: I lack spontaneity, am I working on that? Yes. Is it easy? Not by a long shot. I thrive on structure, I really do, I don't like going somewhere without a backup plan, or four, but we all have our faults. I don't want to conform, to become stuck trying to fit in with society or change who I am. I will never be ashamed of where I've come from or where I'm going. That's not me, it's never been and it never will.

Welcome to Mississippi!

This morning we waved goodbye to New Orleans and set off on our Deep South tour proper. I mentioned the average age group of our tour, right? After some careful observation, we're guessing the oldest couple are in their mid 70s.. at least!

First stop for the day was Baton Rogue, which is the capital of Louisiana. Its where the state level house of reps and senate is held. Interestingly there is ...
