Historical Traveler Reviews West End Guest House Vancouver

King of Hospitality

from anonymous

Evan and his team have mastered hospitality. I knew we were in good hands after talking to him on the phone and getting info on the place and sites. We traveled with our 17 month old son and therefore didn't stay in the main house with it's many antiques. The 2 bedroom suite next door was great - room to spread out toys. We joined the other guests in the main house for breakfast and loved how it was decorated. (The also serve afternoon libations.) Each day breakfast was delicious and they way they wait on so many people and take care of everyone's needs was amazing. Would love to return.

Wonderful place

from WendyDC

This is simply a wonderful place to stay in Vancouver, BC. In the middle of busy, vibrant, downtown Vancouver, lies this quaint and sweet retreat. The rooms are comfortable and charming, the rates very reasonable, and the breakfasts delicious and healthy. Mostly, though, it's the details and personal service that makes this B&B stand out. All special requests are professionally and caringly respected.

As a romantic surprise, I had asked for the room to have some treats there upon our (late) arrival. With much initiative (and little guidance on my part), they set up a welcome package of champagne, cheese, fruit, and chocolates. We were overwhelmed by how nice everything was. It was the perfect, relaxing, touch after our long journey there.

The house is beautifully maintained, cleaned meticulously, and lovingly taken care of. The sherry and cookies each night are delightful details that add to the warmth. Just the right mix of privacy and community, I will stay here every time I'm in Vancouver!

Fabulous B&B

from InPhilly

This was easily the best B&B I have stayed in. Located close to shopping, beaches, Stanley park, Canada place etc, staying at Westend made it easy to see all of Vancouver. The rooms are tastefully appointed, comfortable, the beds are fantastic and the breakfasts especially on the weekends is to die for. Evan and his staff are very hospitable, helpful and fun.

Fantastic West End

from caughtintime

Good location and awesome breakfast! Classy but not cluttered b and b. Personalised service. Accomodated groups with varied needs. Good job all around.

Evan's Victorian B&B

from anonymous

The West End Guest House is not only well-located, but also capable of taking care of visitor's needs. I found Evan's well-prepared breakfasts energetic to start the day, but also to help focus what I wanted to learn about Vancouver. His breakfast skills shine each morning, whether it be oatmeal or buckwheat waffles. His staff sees to it that dietary requirements are well-met.

He doesn't avertise that he provides baked goods towards the end of the day or the caraf of sherry for tired travellers. It makes for a fine touch.

West End Guest House is capble of rendering each traveller all that he/she neeeds. When I go back to Vancouver, I plan to stay there.

The Best B&B Experience

from anonymous

We stayed at this B&B for about 8 days and we felt right at home. The staff was excellent and the owner Evan Penner is very helpful and made sure we were comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and the location was perfect. After sleeping on their beds we decided to change the beds/mattresses at our home and buy it from the same manufacturer that supplies the feather beds at the West End Guest house.

Try it and you won't go wrong. We plan to go there again soon.

Why stay anywhere else in Vancouver, BC?

from anonymous

While there are plenty of B&Bs to select from in most cities, very few are considered "keepers" in my opinion. After several stays over a period of at least five years, I can say without any reservation that The West End Guest House is worthy of your attention. Each room is well appointed, exceptionally clean, and the beds make you feel as if you're in Europe! After a restful night (which won't be any problem after you snuggle up on top of a feather bed and a high-quality mattress), you'll awaken to a breakfast that most 5-star restaurants couldn't compete with. It's worth knowing that Evan (the owner) would never think about serving breakfast from a box, can, or some transfatty muffin from Costco! The staff is highly trained, attentive to detail (but not obtrusive), and guests (whether traveling solo or as part of a couple or group) are made to feel at home. Finally, you can't beat the location--close to downtown, Stanley Park, the trendy and fun West End neighborhood, English Bay, and many more attractions.

A Great Choice

from lbrown2304

Three of us stayed at the West End Guest House in September 2004 prior to our cruise to Alaska. It was WONDERFUL. I think I had the best crepes I've ever had there one morning at breakfast. The location is one block off Robson Street which is a happening location. The one thing you should be aware of is there are a lot of stairs. Since there were three of us we had to stay in the Queens Room which is in the attic. If you have someone "stair challenged" this might be an issue. Otherwise, this a fantastic choice and I would definitely choose to stay here again. P.S. A cab to the cruise terminal is defintely a must! :)

Wonderful B and B

from anonymous

I stayed at the West End Guest House in May. It was everything their web site said it was and more. Photos were accurate and up to date. Bed was very comfy. Staff was friendly and always ready to assist. Breakfast was tasty and the other guests were friendly. The guest house also has a very large book of restaurant menus-a real time saver. As for location, it was on a quiet, safe feeling street (of course so is most of Vancouver). Just a block or two from the trolley tour bus, regular buses and a good street filled with shops. If you are coming from the cruise terminal with luggage (as I did), you might want to invest in a taxi (I will next time), as Vancouver is very hilly. I would not hesitate to recommend the West End Guest House to friends.

Nice place to stay

from anonymous

We stayed several nights at the West End Guest House recently. It is a lovely old pink Victorian house on a side street, so it was quiet. What we liked best was the peaceful atmosphere, plus the upstairs balcony back porch, that was perfect for afternoon sun in the comfortable furniture. The beds are like clouds, with beautiful linens, and though some rooms are fairly small, the antiques and room decorations are all very elegant. Parking is free in the back of the house, and it is in good walking distance to everything that we wanted to see. The cook one morning went out of his way to make a special omelette to match dietary needs, which we appreciated. They have bicycles for guests to use, but we never got around it it.
