    ... go down and climb back up. Then they have a little train running on a hand pulley to pick up the grapes and take them down the hill. The harvest was a few weeks ago so the grapes are gone and the leaves are falling off. Although they haven't had much rain the sun and coolness is said to have made for excellent grapes, but not very many...This part of the Rhine is where we went a couple of years ago, but the views are still spectacular.     A lovely village of some 3,000@ visited by 3 million annually!! Very cute. Highlight is visit to mechanical musical devices in a 600 year old home complete with original murals. Cruise through the magnificent Rhine valley. Misty and very cold but the Autumn colours ...

    ... into the rocks, so they say.
    Last night we tasted "new wine" for the first time. It was delicious but was completely milky/ cloudy. It is something you only get here we think. They can't bottle it because it is still fermenting.
    Tomorrow who knows what we will do but it's Karen's birthday so there will be celebrating. ...

    Have water. Need canoe.

    ... on this trip. We'd have to say that things have changed. While the new owners, Mr. and Mrs. Ko are nice folks, we miss Fatima, the former owner, who watched over her guests like a hen watches her chicks. Plus, whatever time of day you came into the hotel, she was there, seeming to be in a hundred places at once and available to her guests. Not so much anymore with new ownership. They seem to be running it as a Pension. ...

    We started our day to a visit to the bakery for breakfast! We've been very unorganised (as usual) and forgot Europe goes to sleep all day Sunday so all the supermarkets are shut and we have no food, so we bought a loaf of bread from the bakery to keep us going for a bit!

    We headed off through woodlands which was nice and cool and headed to bingen to catch the ferry to rudesheim, ...
