Day 26

A travel blog entry by higgsie81 on Jan 05, 2015

5th January Day 26 We woke up and had breakfast at the hostel which was included (should anyone ever stay in Nelson I would recommend the Prince Albert) then we took out some bike, which we got from the hostel free of charge even after we had checked out, we took the bikes for a cruise round the bay and along the river, it's a really nice town. We then headed off to Blenheim for an afternoon of wine tasting. It took around an hour and a half ...

We had a 3 hour drive to Hopewell Lodge, our next destination in the Marlborough Sounds, so another earlyish start! The roads were very windey, and a lot of them were dirt tracks - I got a little travel sick! It was worth it however, as the lodge is great. When we arrived there was a thick layer of dust on Eggy! ... The Track Lodge. This is a privately owned lodge - not a DOC hut - in the middle of the track.
So instead of carrying a backpack with my sleeping bag, I had the option of staying at the lodge, linen and towels provided. They have a combo deal: 140 NZD for accommodation and transport (a pretty good deal I thought since the shuttle to and from the track with another company was gonna cost me way more than that). I had booked it through the i-site in Nelson and ...

... they fell in love, and here she is, wife of Tony and mom of Louie, Tony becoming a new father again at 65! We really enjoyed visiting with them, and Tony offered us another night at their place and a trip to see the "real" vineyards and wineries of the region (behind the scenes, mostly at cellars of his friends!), but, time not permitting, we sadly needed to move on the following morning.

We saw lots of evidence ...
