... for that. Towns are 20 or 30 miles apart, and the nearest city of any size is Albuquerque - 3 1/2 hours away. That said, you're in for flying into Durango - skiing, a modern look into the American West, and a sleepy mountain town. It's a vastly different experience than you would get on the other side of the range in Denver, but none the worse for it.

... in Silverton just before noon and went to the Brown Bear Cafe for lunch. After lunch we wandered around Silverton and then made our way back to the train for the return voyage.
