... thought we might stay there but changed mind and decided to head for Dubuque - on the Mississippi. that was not such a good idea as we could not find a motel on the road we were taking.

... are all unique and the shops are as varied. One shop, Galena General Store has more hot sauces than I've ever seen in one place. I know Dick Wilson and Dave Millross would have been in "Hot Sauce" heaven.
The town sits near a river and the entrance has flood gates as that river can overflow. Just a unique place. You will enjoy the pictures soon. This would be a great road trip destination for us motor home junkies.

... indoor water park. We splashed, slid and soaked for an hour and a half, before getting a much-needed dinner. It was fun to stand on the shores of the river and watch it swirl by, although I don't think its strength and expanse made the impact on Alex it deserved.
It has been a great day by any measure, but made all the more spectacular in light of the day before. The hug that Alex gave me as we walked off the field after playing catch said it all.
... look around downtown. It's amazing the things you can learn, even after 16 years of living somewhere. We never knew that it was a Holy Week tradition to go to seven "monuments" (Catholic Churches) and recite prayers. In Bogota, because most people have the day off on Good Friday, that is when they do this. We found ourselves in crowds of tens of thousands of people walking from church to church to read certain prayers at each one!
