... the next morning to get to a shelter almost 19 miles away, thinking, from the guidebook's elevation profile, that it would be a fairly easy day. But while there were few large ups and downs, the flattest part of the trail for the day turned out to be a very rocky ridge that slowed us down quite a bit. We still made fine time, but it wasn't the easy stroll we imagined, and our feet were sore afterward.

Plan B was to go get a National Park site passport stamp. There is an exhibition coal mine in Beckley (about 20 minutes from the ATV park), which is part of the National Coal Heritage Area, so off we went. ... up by then, we'll try again tomorrow.

Instead of going to the ballgame, we spent the evening at WalMart and the Dollar Tree looking for rain ponchos. We are scheduled for a 4-hour ATV tour tomorrow morning, and it will go even if there are thunderstorms, which are predicted. We, of course, brought everything we could possibly need (and then some) except rain gear. Umbrellas will not be useful on an ATV, ...

... not participate fully due to cramps :/ worse thing ever... not being able to climb on a trip that was supposed to be flawless.. Its okay though, I gathered enough composure to crush a 10! On top rope...but still! It was fun.
