... so we decided it was best to settle away from the centre of town for a change and park in a residential district about 1km away... much more tranquilo!!

Splashed out on take away pizza for dinner but ate it in the shop and washed down with a bottle of beer. We became the hot topic of conversation when owners and local patrons found out we were Australian and were ...

Ground hog's day

... leaving you with a bright cheery feeling, the sun is shining and there are palm trees everywhere. Anyways back to Genoa the soon to be ground hog's day of our trip. We had checked, checked and double checked our ticket to make sure we knew of any transfers and where they happened. We made sure we were in our rightful seats even we have had to many experiences of getting in trouble for being in the wrong seat and we are tired of playing musical chairs. As we ...

First Port of Call

This morning we woke up to get ready to go on the Historic Center walking tour of Genoa. We had a nice breakfast at the buffet and I even found a decaf cappa for breakfast too. We met in the lounge at 8:45 and got on a little boat in the harbor and had a tour of the harbor and then got off at the aquarium and started our tour. Genoa is very nice and the historic section dates back ...

A week in Italy: Cinque Terre!!

... the sun went away behind the clouds before we could actually watch it set. Instead we shared a bottle of wine at a restaurant near the marina and listened to the waves crash.

In my travel book we had ran across a restaurant that was in Manarola and had pretty good prices. Dinner was delicious as I have come to expect in Italy. Ravioli for me, (favorite) and a really weird fried seafood platter for Laura equipped with 'little fishes', calamari, and prawn (shrimp). It was a ...

Boredom and Boobs

<Brian's brief chronological list of "highlights" (and of whinging)> - Since we had walked all 5 towns already, which is the one and only highlight of things to do here, we had nothing to do today but rest. Ended up sitting around the harbour area, alternating between the sun and shade. - Hmmm... highlights... Lang was curious what the people were doing on the rock formation on the other side of the harbour area, so I zoomed in on the camera ...

... the bus came there where about 150-200 people and it was beginning to drizzle. The bus was lousy and apparently had no shocks as it was very bumpy. I sat next to a woman from SF. Her husband and daughter where farther back in the bus. Traffic was heavy and it took 2.5 hours to get back. I went back to the hotel and started the computer to download my shots from the day and then went down the street to have dinner. There was a line but the ...

... for this free day and decided to visit Portovenere. It is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site despite it not being adjacent to the other towns. On my walk to the bus stop in La Spezia I encountered their farmers' market which was bustling. The smells were great with so many different items for sale and lots of shoppers. The bus to Portovenere was a quick 30 minutes south along the coast. It sits at the end of a peninsula clinging to a rocky promentory ...

... now a days, and loads and loads of tourists. People take Easter very seriously around here. Oh ya, we attempted to see the Pope on Good Friday, but we were unsuccessful in our endeavor. Thousands of people, we did not even get close. It was pretty cool though, fires were lit in the Coliseum, and the sound system was excellent. We ended up ...
