... s a fresh water shower on the pebbly beach right in front of our tents. Spag bol and carbonara for lunch in the beach bar and restaurant, a chunk of whole roasted piglet for dinner. It's glorious.



Tomorrow we have to leave this idyll. We're going back north into Slovenia to place Mick into his natural habitat - down a deep hole in the ground.

... I've barely had them before Motovun. Every meal included truffles. I had truffles and chicken, truffles and pasta and even truffle soup. My mouth literally waters when I think back on the food I ate there. Damn. Also, my trip to Europe has allowed me to discover a love for red wine, which makes me feel more mature than usual. Day 2 in Pula we went into the Colosseum - one of 5 best preserved in the world. At one time it was to be taken to Venice. The building began in 31BC by Augustus, enlarged by Claudius & completed in 96 AD by Flavius. There was an exhibition of Amphora vessels - hundreds found that were made to hold mostly olive oil. We had a bus trip from Ljubljana to Divaca, train to Buzet & another to Pula. We climbed high into the Croatian mountains into Istria. Passed through small towns with terra cotta round tiles on stone buildings, olive groves &veg gardens. ... fresh fish and chicken from the market for the BBQ at the hostel. The BBQ ended up being a failure but our meal was still delicious. The evening was spent walking around the town after a mid afternoon nap (early morning rise to blame) and watching the world cup with a few other guys from the hostel.
