    Scopello, Sicily: the real deal

Warning: broad generalisations feature in this blog...ALL Italians travel in HUGE family groups and they ALL travel in August. Full stop!!! We knew everywhere in Europe would be busy in August but Sicily was literally heaving with Italian tourists. After our overnight ferry trip we drove from Palermo to Scopello (1.5 hrs) to check out where we'd be for the next 2 weeks. Sicily is much more rugged, dusty and built up than we had anticipated. There is not a lot of 'new' ...

... kafle uliczkami.

    O 14.30 dotarliśmy do długo ...

No words can do justice to the magic of this place: the food, the climate, the people, the unmatched scenery and history -- no wonder this place honouring the goddess Venus is a cross-roads of great minds from ancient civilisations to present time.

Arriving at Erice - June 15

Ryanair, delayed a bit, but no dramas. It was raining heavily in Rome, but arrived in a very sunny Trapani! Heat was scorching, but ...

Segesta and Selinunte - Ancient Greek Temples

... and drop us off to the Acropolis. It is a long walk, probably not worth taking in a hot summer's day.

Next stop was Segesta. Another 6 Euros, plus E1.50 for shuttle all the way to the top of the hill to check out the Amphitheatre. It was a steep climb, and with the scorching summer sun, it's worth taking the shuttle. On the way down, a walk would give photo opportunities with a different ...
