We visit the Duomo which is built on top of the ancient Temple of Minerva. Finally we see Apollo's Temple, built in 600 BC, which seems oddly out of place in the city center.

Sicily sucks
... wasted a lot of the day going round in circles. This place is poorly signposted and the streets are tiny but eventually we are winding our way up the hill to Etna. It gets colder and colder the higher we go and there is heaps of either fog, or the cloud cover, can't decide which, so visibility is poor. When we get to the top we are underwhelmed. I don't know what I expected, but this barren landscape littered with lava rocks and a whole bunch of tourist buses, but not much else, ...

We headed off early from Amalfi for another cliff side bus trip to Salerno. Only 30 kms but one hour fifteen minutes of tricky bus driving at Italy's exhilirating best. Joined the train at Salerno for a six hour trip down the coast to Messina. At that point we viewed Italian skills at their best.
