... we saw Common Loons with a baby and Trumpeter Swans (Travis and I got to add these to our Life Lists). The call of a Common Loon is by far my favorite bird call. Wee-ooo quee….. hoooo-lii!!! There was a seven mile driving tour that is nothing but wetlands and ponds on either side of the road. Our species list ended up not being very long but we only spent a brief amount of time at the refuge.

... to ride on this trail. We rode 20 miles along Lake Bemidji. We rode to the end of the 120 mile trail. Wish we could have done the whole thing, but time would not allow. ... but at least twice as long, and much less populated. We rode very slowly for the first half trip, as there were some wonderful waterbird gatherings to enjoy. We stopped for a picnic lunch at one quiet little beach to watch the birds.
