We got away from our hotel just before 9:30 after enjoying our complimentary continental breakfast (it said all the right things). Before leaving Santa Barbara we decided to check out the Santa Barbara mission about 5 minutes away. It was pretty impressive and a nice little piece of California's history. I squeeze between a pole and rusty fence, noting no warning signs of the land being private property, but seeing instead a sign informing me that this particular area is used as a mating area for a certain type of bird and not disturb them. Seeing as I can't imagine what an angry, horny, bird could do to harm me, nor would I like to find out, I heed the warning with great caution.
