... again gave ourselves an early start for a day walk, this time the 3 Lakes Walk, a mere five hour ramble in view of the volcano, on a clear day. The first two hours redefined "steep" and the clouds never did give us the money-shot but we made it back to the bus pick-up just in time for the heaven's to open. And the rain fell, heavily. ... downtown. Very very impressed by the fancy restraraunts, travel agencies and even grocery stores in downtown. Fantastic design on the house and decoration. They even had movie in public on Friday night. Close tot the lake, a piano shower was put on. Very relaxing atmosphere. We love it. After all this is a vacation town for the locals and travelers. It was much harder than I expected to get to pucon from Pangipulli, the hostel lady had mentioned is need to change buses but then the policeman the night before had told me there was a direct bus but only at 9am. The main attraction in Pucon is the 2847m high Villarrica volcano. We waited for a good day of weather, and set off early in the morning (7am). ... to stop 400m from the top, Ellie on the other hand prioritses fun over pain/danger, so opted to rest and turn back with 4 others. The final 400m were hell, the ice turned to soft, deep snow, loosing your ice pick completely as it sunk into the snow, constantly pushing upwards but going no-where fast, with the gradient getting steeper.
