... called. She was taken by ambulance to the local hospital, a few minutes away. After being checked over and having a chest x-ray she was given the all clear. She perked up considerably over the couple of hours we were there which was a huge relief! All in all a rather scary experience but we were helped by some lovely people and she seems none the worse for wear. Hopefully that will be our only need for medical assistance on this ...

After a sleepless 11 hour flight I arrived in San Francisco 3 hours after I had set off. My first bit of advice for anyone crossing the border into America is border control take themselves very, very seriously. They do not smile, they do not wish you a good trip. After an intense interrogation about who Ben was, what he did, how I knew him etc. he seemed satisfied that I was meeting a real person, and I was sent on my way.

It's the night before we leave for California. Peter is graciously letting us have the Pascoe family wagon - we flight out, nab it, and race it xcountry Smokey and the Bandit style. But with fewer cops and more cowboy hats, hopefully.
