Mechanicville is a convenient stop- you don't even really leave the channel you just push off a bit to the side and onto the wall. There is a lot of wake from passing boats but luckily for us there has not been much traffic at all and the locks close at 6 pm anyway. There looks to be an Italian restaurant or two ...

But something must have happened because Otto noticed that they seemed to stay in place for a very long time and they never caught up to us. Not even when we got stuck on the rocks several times. This is really the first time that I have ever been so stuck on a rocky section that I couldn't move. At one point I thought I was moving, but ...

... due to my obligations at Fredonia. So I'm taking advantage of not having to move myself into a dorm or apartment this year, and I'm gearing up for a southern adventure! I have an extra leg on the journey: I have to get myself from Albany, NY to back home in Genesee County. This is basic geography working against me. I've packed up all the shorts and tanks I own, and it's time to take my little car across New York ...

... bring him back here for a few days rather than stay in RI. We had also planned to visit my brother on Long Island and John's brother in Plymouth MA but we are putting that off. We are instead just taking a much needed rest and enjoying the kids before we head back home. We didn't realize how tired we were until we finally arrived here. We have been on the road since April 27 and we have had a wonderful time but staying stationary for awhile will also be ...
