... working more than 12 hours a day in back-breaking work in the hope of finding gold.
So I thought I would give it a go, just to see how awful it was. Well, okay, not the back-breaking work bit, but while in Ballarat, I decided I would camp overnight, just to see what it was like.
I should really have checked the weather forecast first. The last I heard, it had been heading for a fresh 4 degrees.
Deciding to pre-empt the cold, I went to bed wearing a t ...
3/11/08 Today we started driving thru the Great Ocean Road. Our first stop was at the Bells Beach where the last scene of the movie Point Break was filmed (supposedly). It is a pretty beach full of cliffs all over. Really pretty. From there we kept driving thru the ocean road appreciating the scenery and stop often at different touristic spots, such as Erskin Falls (which took was 309 steps to get down there and 309 harder steps to go up all to see a pretty much dry ...
Ballarat, Australia jarrettalane... I have this thought maybe he cont fully heal me for I placed my self in the middle of a door way and instead of questioning this Jesus spirit.. I fully excepted his spirit in my heart. I heard the voice of God say "It will be fully healed tomorrow mourning." Then Faye said "amen." We giggled and went in our separate directions... I started playing b-ball with excitement and was pleased at my choice and thought this is what life's about its about living with God but ...
The bottom of an island, Australia carolinesheart... nice to have a mike and a speaker... so less projection... but apparently I was loud.. and I got great comments from people... ahh melbourn'ers' are so nice. After we were all done Jenny, megs, and I went around the market to see whats around and I bought a green shirt for 2 dollars.. its nice..I was looking for shoes but its odd to buy used shoes for people have different foot molds. Then after that I decide to go to WILLY ...
Surrey hills, Australia carolinesheart... operated by the Foster's Corp. They have over 3km of hand dugged tunnels that were used for aging the wine in the 1860's- to the present day. We had a tour of these tunnels. It was very cool underground and that was perfect for the aging of the wine and sparkling wines(which the winery is famous for) The tunnels are all covered in black mold (harmless) and makes the tunnels all black. The wine is stored down in the ...
Ballarat, Australia vannhansen... up, a car pulled up behind us, and an Aboriginal couple came out and offered help. They said they do not like to see people in trouble on the highway and had been in that situation too many times themselves and wanted to make sure we were ok. We said we were fine, thanked them and they and we were on our way. They were sooo nice about it. We found a place to stop and slept great in the cool air! The next day the car was overheating a bit still, so bought a radiator ...
Malbourne, Australia mrewkowski... I did it. Some amazing scenery and a whole load of madly coloured fish. In all honesty there was not quite the variety of underwater life I saw on Ningaloo reef in the West, but still highly enjoyable. Mackay was our next stop, wher we were kindly put up by Dallas, who I met on a tour in the US a couple of years back. He lent us his car during the day and we headed out to Eungella National Park. A really beautiful place and teaming with wildlife. Found a great spot by ...
Melbourne, Australia sotonseagull... Street station is a masterpiece right in the middle of Melbourne which is undergoing a restoration but it looks like they are doing this slowly and looks a bit half done but it still is beautiful building with the green domes on top. The front of the station has a line of analogue clocks above the entrance and it is a Melbourne tradition if you meet a friend in town for coffee etc is to meet them "under the clocks". The station was ...
Melbourne, Australia dylancSeeing as we had the day off today we thought we may as well do a bit more sightseeing and went to visit the old gold mining town of Ballarat, about 100k's west of Melbourne. So we got up at the same time as normal if we were working and were in Ballarat by 10am. The main tourist attraction, apparently the biggest attraction in Victoria, is Sovereign Hill. It is basically a museum based on 1860's life in the town of Ballarat but features actors living out what it ...
Ballarat, Australia rbisset... I'm driving in. I sure hope I don't sideswipe anything this week. Also, the talk show I picked up on the radio was about how to protect your house from bush fires. This did not inspire confidence. This was also an extremely hot day. I was most thankful to find my hotel room at the Sovereign Hill Lodge in Ballarat has air conditioning (most places don't). It also has hot water and a working toilet. Lynne's not-yet-remodelled house in Beechworth had none of the above.
