The Aleutian Islands were a battleground during WW2 and the Aleut Native Americans were in a dreadful position. The U.S. placed many in internment camps and others were taken prisoner by the Japanese. Lots of history here including Alaska’s statehood. Many supported statehood but others weren’t so sure that Alaska could support itself. Time has proven that concern needless!
