Ceilidh Dancing

... The Nevis ranges comprises of three peaks - and apparently more people die trying to climb Ben Nevis than on the roads of Scotland due to poor preparation and the rapidly changing weather. Where we stopped is a monument to those who have died protecting the country, and as we were taking photos a platoon of army boys came jogging past. Evidently the ranges is a popular training ground - they have to run up to 10 miles with 30 pound backpacks on their backs!

Next we ...

The Isle of Skye

... slipped, she flew off and banged up her face, losing an eye - her beauty lost forever. The other clan was enraged by this, thinking it was an insult from the first clan, so they removed the eyes from the horse, the brides servant, even a poor little doggy who was along for the ride and sent it back to the brides clan - who were of course offended too and war again ensued. Mortified by this, the ugly one eyed bride went to the river and cried her eye out - when upon her came the ...

The Nessie Haka

... It's about 24 miles end to end and about 1/5 miles from side to side. Despite our best Aussie haka, Nessie didn't come out to visit.
Further along the Loch to where we are staying tonight AND tomorrow night - two nights in one place, how amazing! We're in a 4 bed room with our own ensuite - our room for those playing along at home? Braveheart of course! We're heading off soon to a Highland History performance, then back to the hostel for some ...

Day 10 - 93 miles in the BMW

... up to the room and bagged the double bed and then went into town for a walk around. Took a few pictures of Loch Ness and some of the town. Not much going on here, just a few shops for the tourists. Back to the hostel for a drink and to use the PC's so that I can upload some photos (which you may have noticed already!). Not sure what to do tomorrow???

... return but told everyone they had been attacked. Their sister didn't believe them and called on the King of Isle's for justice, the seven Elders were killed as an example to all. A well was setup on the edge of the Loch as a reminder.

We stopped off and took pictures of Ben Nevis, the highest moutain in Scotland.. in the picture you can tell I was getting a bit bored sitting in a bus all day!! lol ...

Day 4 - 0 miles in the LR / 4406 feet up/down

... is at about 10m and we have to make sure we don't get too close to the wrong edge as there is a 2000 foot drop on the north side of the mountain. Up at the top I get out my stove and make a very welcomed hot chocolate for the two of us and we quickly get a couple of photos taken and the get our asses off the summit as quickly as we could.

The walk down which we though would be a lot quicker and ...

Day 3 - 231 miles in the LR / 7 miles on foot

I've made it to Fort William, checked into the SYHA Glen Nevis and decided to go for a walk in to town to get some dinner. Little did I know that it was 3.5 miles each way in the pouring rain to Morrisons.

Gone to far to turn around and I am wet now.

The beautiful West Coast.

... brake, and the car that didn't like indecision! Some of the main streets were closed because of tramline-building, which confused the NavMan, ever-insistent that we go through roads which were impassable.

In the end, we just took off in the general direction we thought was right, and relied on the NavMan eventually saying "re-calculating route". After many twists and turns and small ...

You must take the A train...

... to health after a long bout with leukemia, with a six week trip around England and Scotland. We really enjoyed talking to them. Lucky we did, because the train stopped in Glenfinnan, where the viaduct is, and we ended up not leaving again for four hours. The engine had overheated. Plan One was to bring a diesel engine to replace the steam engine, and take us for our visit to Mallaig, the coastal town to which the steam ...

Billy's home town

... knew nothing of what this city had to offer. We were in for a very pleasant surprise.] The easiest way to get to the PP was by the hop on, hop off sightseeing bus. Once again, this was very entertaining as it had a live guide who was very knowledgeable about his city and peppered his commentary with a gentle dose of cynicism. George had taught the BOSS and me all about Wally tiles and commons and tenement housing and different architectural styles in Glasgow. This was very ...
