We're on the road, starting the first stretch of our trip! It is hard to leave home, but we are looking forward to all of the adventures to come. Car is packed to maximum capacity (with still being able to see out of the windows, of course). With a full tank of gas, a heavy heart, and some nervous excitement, we are off to a good start and almost to buffalo. We will make a couple of posts each day of our trip, so stay tuned!! Love always, Julia and ...

      ... Safe travels, John!

Soon I arrived at Lock #30 and Maura introduced me to Jeff, the very friendly Chief Lock Master. Earlier, he explained to Maura the intricate workings of the canal locks. Today had been a particularly slow day, only three boats passed through. Jeff said we were welcome to use the Elmer Clark Pavilion and ...

We slept till 7.45am and then had a leisurely breakfast.

We left Red Lion at 11.30am, and headed towards the Finger Lakes in NY State.
We had lunch at a Diner on the way which was really good. We visited Michael's Craft store in the mall after lunch. It was absolutely amazing. Bought some products I've never seen before for Scrapbooking. Some self adhesive ...

... was getting late. The rain
finally stopped and it was humid but not hot. We arrived at the Palmyra visitor
center at around 6:30 and when we came walking up the walk, two sister
missionaries snapped to attention and waited for us to come inside. We had the
whole place to ourselves besides a senior missionary couple, Bro and Sis
Childs. We got a map of the sites to see in the morning and a list of camping
      spots in the area.

We checked out the closest ...
