... in Campbell River with exhibits explaining the natives (First Nations) heritage and the battles they faced after British and Spain started colonizing this land to keep the USA from taking it. Also exhibits explaining the fishing industry and lumber industry. Very interesting and a must see as rated by Trip Advisor. Also Campbell River offers the best Salmon fishing in Canada and the sockeye salmon tastes amazing and I ate fresh salmon almost every day. :-) They say here ...

... to the boat only a short distance away. However, they weren't easy to photograph as it was difficult to predict where they would come up and were gone again very quickly. After the whales we visited some seals basking on the rocks in the sunshine. Some of them were quite lively and were jumping in and out of the water. We got a call from another boat saying there had been orca (killer) ...

... to the whim of nature’s tectonic plates. The day before the dreadful earthquake struck Nepal, BC had a 6.1 magnitude quake just north of Vancouver Island. It is apparently a regular occurrence here and kids and adults are schooled in what to do in the event of the "big one" which they have been expecting for years.

Tofino had a great feel to it, a good mixture of hippy, backpacker, weekend city visitors, locals, Vietnamese ...

  • The rest of the day was spent trying to find accommodation. We ended up in Tofino at a guest house which is like a B&b but without the breakfast. It's $110 for the night, Canadian dollars and it was just about the last vacant room in town! Tomorrow I'd like to have a look at the galleries that I saw but couldn't go into because we were on the accommodation hunt. It's a surfing place ...

    ... was a brilliant walk and really immersed you in the trees. Just like the forest from the day before it was eery how quiet it was. The trees were so dense in places it got very dark and there were hardly any bugs (thank god).

    The walk ended out at the ocean again with a small hut for people to get changed in. Then after that it was a scramble down over some slippery rocks to get to where the springs flowed over a small cliff in ...
