          ... Jose and our Costa Rican adventure wound down. Glad to be back to the lovely hotel but very tired after the trip out. Barely made it through dinner and off to bed. Funny to happen upon a Paul McCartney concert which we thoroughly enjoyed before lights out.

          ... lightning and thunderous tympani. Escazu and San Jose are in central Costa Rica, surrounded by mountains, and these make the perfect setting for afternoon storms during "winter." The storms often lasted for many hours into the evening. It wasn't very cold, but being outside was very wet. We both had umbrellas, and made sure they were in our backpacks when we left for school in the morning.

          ... check out downtown San Jose. We were surprised at the Costa Rican mentality, having been in Asia for a while, which is modest. In Costa Rica, people are openly affectionate in public and we were surprised to see everyone very well dressed, perhaps more modern and trendy than most countries, we even saw a few punks. In fact, the punk hair style seems to be a trend among men, with some preferring piercings all over their faces.

          ... church would fill quickly with standing room only and these are big churches. Afterward, the congregation would spew out into the park for a day of relaxation and socialising.
