... lightning and thunderous tympani. Escazu and San Jose are in central Costa Rica, surrounded by mountains, and these make the perfect setting for afternoon storms during "winter." The storms often lasted for many hours into the evening. It wasn't very cold, but being outside was very wet. We both had umbrellas, and made sure they were in our backpacks when we left for school in the morning.
We had a brief stop in San Jose to catch our flight to Honduras in the morning. Most of our evening was spent wandering around San Jose trying to find somewhere to print our boarding passes! The hostel we were in was quite new and though very nice, was making massive effort to try and make us feel welcome and have fun. As we were the only people about for a lot of the evening, it mean they were putting all their efforts into it and ...
... winded and we came across a fence gate and saw a silhouette. It freaked us out and I shined my light on it-- it was an old white man standing behind the gate looking right at us. His hands were gripping the gate like a prisoner. And he would NOT move! Didn't even flinch at our flashlights, no smile, no nothing! We flickered the light 3 times before he moved slightly. This sent us scurrying uphill, really spooked out now.

Even more so the most important thing I've learned about, is myself. I've learned to appreciate life a little more, and realize how quickly it goes by. But more importantly I've felt more alive than ever during this trip. The days we pass at the beach seem surreal and I have to constantly remind myself that I am studying abroad..not just traveling! ...
