This volunteering was a whole different level than the last. It was raining when we got to Haleakala National Park. The Rangers told us we were going to hike up a couple miles into the forest. My groups job was to put in new reflective tape on the board walk in the Bamboo section of the forest. ... As we ate the sun set over the ocean horizon and yet again I was unable to see the green flash. The clouds in the evening sky were amazing, textured half-circles that seemed to be very close and created a sense of movement in the fading light of the day. They were absolutely amazing and I had to snap a picture to remember the gorgeous sky that evening.

... our first shark (a white tip reef shark)! Other notable sightings: potters/eibli angels, damsels, box fish, millet butterflies, school of barracudas, a giant crab and a baby octopus (that we missed). ... in the water to whom I can point him out. Nope, no one around. I try to get some photos but it is impossible to see anything on the screen of our underwater camera. As the turtle surfaces for air he is practically right beside me. Got this great photo!
Eventually he swims further out than I want to go so we part ways and I return to shore.

I rinsed off at the outdoor shower and jumped in the swimming pool to float around ...
