          Relaxed elegance

My husband and I stayed at Thistledown house for his birthday weekend surprise in their "Sweet Tibby's" suite. We found instant relaxation and comfort with all of the sweet touches making this our favorite Bed and Breakfast stay to date. Wonderfully decorated, VERY comfortable bedding with high quality linens. The food was exquisite and the hospitality 1st rate. Rex and Ruth are dreamy hosts, the whole stay felt magical. Highly recommended!!!

          Top Spot in North Van.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying with Rex and Ruth at Thistledown during our trip through Canada. A truly memorable experience, from the great bedroom, through the pleasant home environment, to the incredible food delights produced from the kitchen by the fabulous Ruth. The place is immaculately presented. Rex likes a chat, and a cup of tea can turn into an hour discussion. Both Rex and Ruth provided great information concerning places to see and how to get around the wonderful City of Vancouver. Thistledown's location is tops, right on a bus route, and in close proximity to the Capilano suspension bridge and Grouse Mountain. Step off the busy road into a quiet and relaxing world of hospitality and charm. We could not recommend this wonderful place more highly.

Feel At Home Away From Home

We recently stayed at the Thistledown House before returning home after an Alaskan cruise. The care we received and comfort of this B&B was exceptional and continued the flavor of our wonderful trip. Rex and Ruth did everything possible to make us feel at home. They served tea and homebaked goods in the afternoon and a delicous gourmet breakfast laced with good conversation with other guests. Around the Canadian table there were Americans, Australians and Brits. Rex and Ruth's European background gave a continental sense to this wonderful home. The B&B is located away from the hustle and bustle of Vancouver but within a short drive to any part of the city or the surrounding countryside. We stayed in the Snuggery, a wonderful room with a fireplace and lovely bathroom. The heated tile floor made the bathroom comfortable at any time of the day, even barefoot!

Some of the little things Rex and Ruth did for us included making reservations at a local restaurant, suggesting things to see and do while in Vancouver, and giving directions/maps to speed our travel through the city and across the border to Washington State.

We are sure you'll enjoy a stay at this delightful B&B as much as we did. We will gladly return there on our next visit to Vancouver.

Best B&B experience we've ever had.

From the moment we arrived we felt completely comfortable and welcome. The owners, Rex and Ruth, could not have been kinder and more considerate. Add to this the absolutely beautiful house and gourmet breakfasts, and you have the best B&B experience you could possibly wish for.

I've stayed in many B&Bs because of my business, but this was the most delightful.

You'll be very glad you choose to stay with Rex and Ruth.

          Wonderful hospitality

This must surely be the best B & B we have ever stayed in. We stayed one night at the beginning of our vacation in Canada and two nights at the end. When we returned for the last two nights, we were welcomed as old friends. Rex and Ruth were anxious to hear about our cruise and time in Whistler.

The house is gorgeous, classy and stylish. Each bedroom, in fact every room of the house has been tastefully decorated with antiques and pictures. The breakfast gourmet. Delicious fresh produce beautifully presented.

Lovely memories, hope to return one day.

          Wonderful, wonderful place!

My husband and I stayed at the Thistledown House recently in November. Ruth and Rex, the owners, could not be more gracious or welcoming. We stayed in Pages and it was absolutely wonderful. The bed is so comfortable, and the sheets divine. The bathroom is lovely, with a huge, old fashioned tub. Every morning, we were treated to a gourmet breakfast that never failed to delight our tastebuds. Every evening, tea and snacks were put out. We certainly hope to come back to Vancouver and stay at this wonderful bed and breakfast again.

          The Best B&B Ever

My husband and I stayed at Thistledown House this past April. We have stayed at many bed and breakfasts all over, but this one was the best of the best. Ruth and Rex are the perfect people to be running a bed and breakfast. My husband and I were in the room Memories which had the most beautiful bed linens and accessories (and by the way the room has been totally redone since the website pictures have been taken and it is beautiful). The sheets are Swiss (and so is Ruth) and she irons them to make them extra soft; they're like butter. My husband and I were delighted by a personal menu printed daily for the breakfasts (they even had our names on it). They are huge, we didn't have lunch till 2 or 3. Fabulous and we are staying there again in March. Thanks Rex and Ruth. Keep up the great work!!!!

          Absolutely Fabulous

We have just returned from a fabulous stay at Thistle Down House, Ruth and Rex are the most wonderful people I have met, we had a really long flight which was 5 hours late and arrived at Thistledown to be greeted by pots of tea and cakes....we felt at home immediately, the rooms are beautiful and we actually felt it was a home from home, so much so that when travelling one of the venues did not live up to expectation so we telephoned Rex to see if we could return felt like going home. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it to anyone staying in Vancouver, forget the hotels and stay at Thistle Down you won't be disappointed, luxurious fluffly towels, bathrobes, slippers and 5 course breakfasts........Absolutely fabulous and we can't wait to return...

Wish we could have stayed longer!

We had an absolutely lovely time at the Thistledown House. Ruth and Rex are among the most caring and wonderful people around. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the Inn's two dogs and Ruth. Immediately, we were told to relax and sit under the apple tree whereupon Ruth brought us some lemonade and gave us a map and list of places to visit in Vancouver. We followed Ruth's recommendations and had an amazing two days touring Vancouver.

We stayed in Mulberry Peek and loved it. However, we saw the inn's newly finished room ("Pages") and wished that we could've booked it!

Breakfast is an event at this B&B. It was sensational to say the least (four courses)! Ruth makes everything herself and Rex serves while the guests socialize. As seasoned travelers who always choose small inns and B&Bs, my boyfriend and I would recommend Thistledown to anyone. It lives up to even the most discerning guests' expectations.

          Our Favorite B&B

Thistledown House is the best B&B my husband and I have stayed in! Ruth and Rex, the owners, were warm and knowlegable. The house was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the fire place in our room. The food was delicious and the breakfasts and teas were elegant; it was exciting to come to the table. There were lots of special touches, like chocolates in our room, and when we were reheating our dinner leftovers, Ruth brought us trays set with china and linen napkins. You will feel pampered and we can't wait to go back.

Absolutely loving North Vancouver, so desided to stay a few more days on the North Shore with Darren and Chrissie in their amazing 26 floor Penthouse apartment!
And took complete advantage of their knowledge of the mountains.
We went to Mount Seymour Provincial Park for my first 'big' hike.
A good 8km hike up and down Elsa Lake Trail. Although if Darren had his way it would of been 16km!!
I have to admit I was nervous of potential bears and wild cats... But ...

... not really considered coffee yuck!! You need to say 'long black' and that gets you a serious cup of coffee.

We enjoyed a fun evening at Bruce and Holly's NZ Hoedown at the farm of their friends Brenda & Selwyn in Raporoa, absolutely stunning bit of country. Pierre and I presented Holly and Bruce their wedding quilt and they were thrilled, and then the quilt was signed by the hoedown guests. An absolute great time was had by ...

... to the weather depicted in the documentary. (Whew!)

Preparation for this temperate-climate traveller who for many years did not own a winter coat or boots meant deciphering the modern language of cold-weather garb: base layer, insulation layer, sock and mitt liners, neck warmers. What ARE all these items of clothing?? I thank the internet and the excellent staff of Mountain Equipment ...

... gotten us safely around Canada. We were gonna miss that little car but it's only a few days before we pick up another one in Seattle. We battled our way around town to find the drop off and eventually got there with the car in almost as good as new condition, I did manage to scratch up a hubcap on the trip but thats standard for me!! I was hoping they didn't notice and lucky for me they didn't! So with the car paid off and no mode of transport we were left out in the cold and ...

By the time we reached the aid station everyone was sorted out and we continued on up the next very long ascent loosing only a few places before reaching the Enduro (timed downhill) section.
We had a perfect run down - so much better than on our trial day, despite one rider who knocked into me as he tried to get back on ...
