... as it took us as close as possible to the centre of the city – as close as the 'Red Zone' allows. ... zeker, er waren hele mooie dingen te zien. De enige foto die ik heb gemaakt is van een vergulde (ja echt waar!) motorfiets. Een NZer heeft er in 68, 69 en 70 de speedway mee gewonnen en een dwaze amerikaan had in 69 gezegd dat hij de winnende motor zou vergulden wanneer de Kiwi dat voor een derde keer op rij zou flikken. Dat deed hij dus. De fiets doet het nog steeds.
Vrijdag doen we nog een dagje lekker rustig aan in Christchurch en dan gaan we zaterdag richting ...

... und ich hatten angekuendigt, dass wir
bereit wären fuer Kost und Logis im Elternhaus zu arbeiten. Das kam
den Eltern sehr gelegen, denn es gab noch soooo viel zu tun.
Besonders der Garten an dem ein Landschaftgärtner bereits seit fuenf
Jahren arbeitet, brauchte noch den letzten Schliff. Fuer mich
bedeutete der letzte Schliff, Rindenmulch schaufeln – tagein,
tagaus. Danach kam der Steinmulch dran. Das war schon interessanter,
weil ich lernte Dingo ...

... The lads insisted we join them for a few so our 1 quiet drink turned into what must have been 12 pints in 3 hrs (these boys drink quicker than anyone I know). Yours truly also won his maiden pub pool competition! The kiwis were not happy.

Pratty (who I must add played for Hawkes Bay in 1969 with the then center of NZ) insisted we continue drinking at his place once we'd closed the bar & when we explained we were in no shape to drive, he shrugs ...
