... pioneers that found the caves and explored them. At one point she turned her flashlight off and it went totally dark. Then she had us wave our hands in front of our faces and we could barely see it......really? Nope - she explained how our brain knows we are waving our hand so it shows a phantom vision in our brain!! Outside we took some photos of the leaves turning yellow,...it was so beautiful up here.

The ride along the base of Mount Shasta is always awesome, even when there is no snow on the rugged rocky slops. I took a break in Cave Junction at Fred Meyers, a mega store with a Chase bank inside. ... that was too small so he took his clothes off (to his skivvies!) and wiggled through the whole and explored in the 44F cave in his underwear! Anyhow, the formations were not as cool as the Jenolan Caves last year in Australia, but it was still exciting and a great learning experience.

We camped at a private campground, which had hot showers and nice facilities, so that was a real bonus after three days with no showers!
