      ... was in order. Big day. Woke to a fine but cooler morning. Sightseeing on the agenda today. Our first stop was FDR's house at Hyde Park. We saw a short film & then took a tour of the house. Really interesting & now have to go home & read up on him. Sounds like an American Gough Whitlam & the whole Polio/never being seen in a wheelchair thing is so unbelievable. The estate is right on the Hudson River & the wind today was freezing. Back ...

      ... decided to have lunch in Poughkeepsie. I asked google maps to take us to Poughkeepsie & we ended up in a quiet street near "Main Street". We parked the car & went in search of food. On reaching Main Street we quickly noticed a couple of issues: only 1 in 6 shops were open, there were signs saying 'No Loitering' & most significantly, we were the only white people. There weren't many people on the street but the people that were there were watching us so we didn't think ...

      ... honest and say that one of the things that has become more and more evident along this trip is that I have struggled with the idea of trusting the gear enough to climb on and not fear falling. I also have harbored a fear for traversing on rock because I do not like the idea of falling and swinging. And now that we were doing many multi-pitch climbs more frequently, thus placing us higher up in the air, the fear of falling on gear was always present in my mind.

      ... outing to Olana for the group this sunday but there were not enough takers so it was cancelled and oddly, there we were, four of us! Including Emma. Emma and I had to run because our house tour was just about to begin. I really enjoyed the tour and the description of the Churches' life there. Then we headed back home.
