Took an early bus from Ooty to Mysore on New Year's Day. Along the way, we stopped by a roadside Hindu temple. The driver drove into a crowd of people who were praying (slowly, pushing them out of the way) and stopped. Then one of the people there yelled at the driver to move the bus. I wondered why we had stopped there since there was nothing else there, and why we were running over people at prayer.

But an hour later when the driver stopped at another roadside temple ...
