... Begun in th 1830s, the Cuberland Valley Railroad connected all the main cities along the Cumberland Valley from Harrisburg to Hagerstown, paving the way for the economic devolopment of this region that continues to this day. And with that, my post-visit of Mechanicsburg is over. One of the less inspiring post-visits I've had lately, but still important to come back and remember 2007... a very important year in my ...

      Post-visit: A Suburb Utopia?

      Date changed for geographic continuity

Continuing on west is a quiet little suburb town sandwiched between freeways, industrial complexes and soul-less sprawl of developments with no town center. Shiremanstown does have a very basic Main Street and not much more--but it does feel like a town.

Lemoyne is sandwiched between Camp Hill and Harrisburg. Its Main Street kind of blurs with Camp Hills--and there's no decent place for a park bench concert. Doesn't really deserve a concert, but, hey, it's a borough, so I'm counting it.

Only memorable thing are the new "gutter gardens" on the sides of ...

A couple miles further I reach a real riverside town with a road running right next to the river (but no sidewalk--what the heck?). Still it's a pleasant feel. Wormleysburg is only one block wide--but hey, it's officially a town, so I'm counting it!

There is a park bench set up just where I wanted it, overlooking the river and the city beyond. Great spot for my final concert of what has been a pretty decent day.

      Next: Harrisburg, Pennsylvania's ...
