    ... route, we were unsure where the descent to get down the rock was. We did some sketchy down climbing and opted for rappelling off a tree to get down to the now obvious return trail that the guidebook said would take us back to our starting point.

    ... morning we explored Mono Lake, a terminal lake with no outlet to the sea, causing salts to accumulate in it to a very high level. When fresh-water springs containing calcium bubble up through the carbonate rich lake water they form towers of calcium carbonate called tufa.     Lee Vining was much smaller than we had expected given its proximity to the eastern entrance to Yosemite plus Mono Lake and Bodie Ghost Town. According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Vinin g,_California), the population was 222 in 2010 and most of the town relies on tourism.
