... it Richard (our very handy friend) and I broke the inlet to the fuel pump. Rich turned into Mcgiver and came up with a solution to get us to the garage for a much needed service. Thanks Rich!!

... replaced the ones Elgin "rescued". Although I couldn't find the Elgin statues there was an incredible wealth of ancient stone treasures, some of which were of staggering size. I was taken by the Assyrian frieze depicting a ruler receiving tribute of booty and heads (see at the bottom of the photo). Not easy to see but it is close to three thousand years old. Tough to lose a fight in those days. Another section where I spent quite a while was the development of ...
London, England, United Kingdom daviddxHello there, I just moved to London for a four month study abroad program. This city is huge and really overwhelming even though i already love it. I've just been settling into classes and a work schedule, as i'm doing an internship while I'm here, so I haven't seen much of the city yet. I'm pretty excited to get out there and see all the churches, Big Ben. parliament ...
London, England, United Kingdom ecapa... follow on to their children and beyond - this in a country that when Eva Peron had influence, all children had the opportunity to learn how to read and write, now children can leave school at 13! You have a government that spends money in the wrong sectors, is lead by a woman who seems to be the puppet of her husband, who was the leader before her. She seems to have very little respect from the people she apparently represents, and to quote one ...
London, England, United Kingdom loumark... than 2 hostel beds - can you believe that!). Anyhoo met up with Shaz and wandered down Edgeware road for a quick Magners before heading back to the hotel to pick up Kel who had been battling with the underground. Thus complete we headed off to wagamama's for a great meal and a chance to catch up before heading back to the hotel for bed. Shaz is looking good and she enjoyed her last trip out to Oz though her kitchen repairs still aren't finished which must be very frustrating
London, England, United Kingdom churchill2020... say, this was just a crash pad. Here's a warning: the London cab driver suggested that this little hotel, called Heathrow Lodge Hotel, lies just outside his 'zone' or else it crossed a 'zone' or something like that and this comment was followed by the fact that he'd have to charge me 50 pounds. Now, the exchange rate today as I write this (Nov25) is something like 1.48 $ per pound, but at the time it was closer to 1.76$/pound - so his suggestion meant I'd be out around 85 bucks (or ...
London, England, United Kingdom ahamill... not seem to house the calibre of people as seen in Big Brother or other reality shows such as 'Laddettes to Ladies'. That night met up with a few other Kiwi friends. Nothing earth shattering culture shock, although I was a little gobsmacked when I saw public urinals smack bang in the middle of Covent Garden. We are talking 4-sided rather open and public standing toilets for men to relieve themselves in the middle of the street! And the sun was still out! I dunno, I see ...
London, England, United Kingdom kiwimeerkat... We got within half a block of Oxford Street before alarms went off, and we quickly left the area. (For those of you who don't know, June has a phobia of Oxford Street!). We stopped at a small pub near the hotel to warm up with a pint and pie -- it doesn't get much better! The daffodils are in bloom here; in fact, as gray as it is right now, London looks pretty to me. The flower ...
London, United Kingdom jwharam... in the war as well. Unfortunately we only had a few hours there as we decided to get in one more country and shot up into Belgium to Lepen for some more World War 1 sight seeing in Flanders feilds. We drove through the Menin Gate Memorial in Lepen (previously known as Ypres) where inside stands the Hall of Memory with the names of 54,000 soldiers inscribed upon it. We also visited the Tyne Cot Cemetery, the resting place of nearly 12,000 Commonwealth ...
London, United Kingdom ants... a lot of guns, weapons, and military items from the wars of the 19th century. It seemed to really interest men, as shown by the 10:1 male to female ratio of visitors in the museum, but it wasn't entirely my "cuppa tea." I still thought the sections on the Holocaust and WWII were interesting. As usual, I've included some pictures.
