... the places in Austin have stages and such for live performers. This particular joint had a downstairs stage inside, and an outside stage and dirt area. It looked super fun! My mom and I both basically lunged at the man behind the bar when we found out they had sweet tea, which should have been the first indication that we weren't from the area. ... sent a chill and freezing rain to Texas. Fortunately, we were able to hunker down in Austin and wait for the warmth to return to Texas and the Southland. Time to take care of some banking, post office, shopping and cooking. Catching up with family. Sweet.

Although AZ and NM were pretty dismal territory for a decent microbrew, Texas has some great beers which we will try out. Rahr Brewery Texas Red Amber ...

... quite small. Kathi our host who's yard our van is in was very friendly & talked 10 to the dozen with a very strong Texan accent, y'all! Forgot to take photos before we messed it up, but will take some before we leave. Walked around the corner to a Cuban restaurant for dinner, was delicious, . . . . even before all the rum ;-) Very rough nights sleep thou jammed up in a smaller than double bed, gunna take some getting used to after mainly king beds all trip ...

... town, we passed by landmarks (such as St. Luke's church, where we almost got married) that were way on the outskirts of town in the mid 80s, but are now right on major thoroughfares. We found our way to a favorite old haunt, Trudy's, and enjoyed some time catching up with Roberta, John, Alex, and Seth (Fox was working). Good times, indeed.
